During a random conversation last week, someone asked me if I had any interest in sales. I quickly responded, "No!" After all, we have a running joke in our office that says, "Sales makes the dream, Ops executes the nightmare." But the reality is that despite my title being the Chief OPERATING Officer, I am also a salesperson. In fact, every person in my organization is. That's because our collective actions, our collective commitment to being an extension of our brands' identities, our interactions with our clients all determine how our business is perceived. And it determines how our clients and friends speak about us to their friends, family, colleagues, business associates, etc. No matter what your role at your organization is, remember that every day you have multiple opportunities to "sell" your business. These opportunities arise through your performance, your conversations, and your attitude! #3PL #sales #logistics #distribution

One of my biggest recommendations to graduating seniors is to try sales before going into an operations role… you’ll make more if you are good at it. Of course sales isn’t for everyone, but definitely try it if you think you have a shot. Here is an example: Global Supply Chain planner as a top earner at Johnson & Johnson makes $95k according to Zip Recruiter Base salary on average for Johnson & johnson sales reps is $97.5k according to Zip Recruiter. Top earner according to glass door is $178k.

Most of us I think would agree timing is key in logistics. What’s the best way to create it? I learned this lesson by accident early on made a call 2 weeks in and got lanes to quote. I didn’t even understand what a flatbed was at the time . I got lucky. That account turned into my 2nd my best account 6 months later. This company had a new logistics manager within the last year. After this dawned on me I changed my strategy I started looking at job openings on LinkedIn for logistics managers, I started looking poeple up on LinkedIn to see how long they had been somewhere. That is the only reason I got on this crazy platform originally. The strategy worked well for me. Curious what you guys think, if an elite sales person was given 100 random accounts, or a mediocre sales rep was given 100 prospects where there was a new dm in the last year, who would close more business? I’d go with the mediocre rep, what do you think? If you agree, why not create your own timing? #kidfreight #sales #logistics #trucking
