Collective injustice Public Opinion Issues Avana San Jose: Tenant Victim of Landlord Introduction to Book Five I rented an apartment to live in because of the continuing disagreements between my wife and me. I was fed up because the impact of those disagreements left traces and burdened me with loads that I could no longer bear, so I decided to be away from those problems and disagreements that always occurred between us. Everything was fine for the first six months of my stay there, but problems began to appear little by little with the property management in which the apartment was located. Among these problems was neglect of maintenance work, such as not changing damaged light bulbs in the staircase for more than two months. When I filed a complaint with the property management, they responded to me in an unfriendly manner that showed hateful racism. Although I pay the rent on time, which is approximately three thousand dollars a month, I was getting very poor service from them. This negligence resulted in serious material losses, such as spoilage of food in the freezer, the value of which was estimated at more than eight hundred dollars. Moreover, there is a lack of cleanliness around the property, and leaving tree leaves around the apartment on the roads from all sides and even inside the property without it being clean. This neglect led to the presence of many insects and cockroaches that were disgustingly entering my apartment, and it was impossible to live in because it was an unhealthy place and not suitable for anyone to live in. In addition, the apartment was on the second floor. Therefore, I could not carry my purchases from the car and get in it because I was old. In addition, my right foot had an old problem since my childhood. Because of the heart disease that afflicted me, I was unable to carry my stuff. When I asked for help from the property administration to provide someone to carry my stuff in exchange for a fee, they were evading and not helping me. In addition, they plotted against me, annoyed me, and cost me a lot of effort and time, including informing the electricity company to disconnect my electricity, which is my right as an elderly American citizen not to pay more than $1,100 that burdens me. I discovered that the tap water had changed its color and taste on February 16, 2024. It was not good for drinking or cooking. Please continue with the Video

Here's the 30 minute radio interview on the Mike Farwell Show today. It explains why we need to implement mandatory Downspout Disconnection Programs across the country, led by the provinces. This is a simple solution to routine and climate change-related flooding, sewer bypasses, capacity for new housing and costs to residents. Added bonus - we recharge groundwater by discharging rain where it falls, instead of piping it to the lake. Remember, having downspouts connected at your house increases the risk of flooding for you and your neighbours! We are spending billions on all of these things, when we could quickly and cost-effectively solve six problems at once. Please call your local and regional councillor and insist on a mandatory downspout disconnection program, NOW. It's the law. #ontarioroofleaderdisconnectionday I also updated the public on Norton's "Sewers are NOT Trash Cans" program. I invented these signs to make sewers better, for everyone, including residents (who will have fewer sewer blockages once they understand why they cannot flush non-dispersable items or excess fats, oil and grease), and municipalities, who will see a reduction in callouts for Operations staff who attend every house with a blocked sewer. Then there is the decrease in fatbergs in sewers, decrease in pump stations getting hung up with ragging, and reduction of the amount of garbage that we have to screen out at the wastewater treatment plant and truck to the landfill! Oh, and there's that menstrual equity thing. #sewersareNOTtrashcans Two solutions, at virtually no cost to municipalities, that will save billions and billions of dollars every year for residents, insurers and municipalties. What are we waiting for? I had a chance to thank Waterloo MP Bardish Chagger, Kitchener MP Mike Morrice, Kitchener-Conestoga MP Tim Louis, Ontario Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner, and Kitchener MPP Aislinn Clancy. All of these wonderful politicians have been great supporters. https://lnkd.in/gsgJhD7q Interview starts at 1:12:02. It's also on Rogers Cable channel 20 - I'll post that when it's up. #sewers #inflow #fatburgs #bestpractices #publiceducation #womeninengineering #onpoli #localgovernment #publicservice

The City of Melville has a long history of not caring about residents’ wellbeing and its ongoing appaing performance of enforcing compliance with the many laws for which it has primary jurisdiction on behalf of the State, such as health, dealing with rats, fire protection. This is yet another example! The new CEO, Ms Gail Bowman, has inherited an organisational mess worse than this squalid Mt Pleasant property, all thanks to her past 2 predecessors. So much needs to change. Ms Bowman stated the City is in advanced stages of investigating the matter, however Council needs to act to deal with the City’s failure to show concern for the property owners, and failure to protect residents from the quite obvious health, vermin and fire risks. The City has known about this uninhabital house, health and fire risks for a very long time. Council needs to grill the CEO and demand answers as to why this serious issue was not addressed years ago. We doubt the City would have done anything had it not been for a few passionate and persistent community members. Council must vastly improve its oversight and governance of the City’ compliance and enforcement functions. @followers #cityofMelville #residentsrevolt #badgovernance #goodgovernance #followers #hannahbeazley #dlgsc #governanceconcerns https://lnkd.in/gGcxB4RG

While not directly linked to our demolition work, it's crucial to acknowledge the challenges within the construction sector. Historically male-dominated, it has grappled with issues like heavy workloads, toxic masculinity, extended trips out of town, and mental health struggles. These factors can contribute to abuse, both at work and beyond. That's why we proudly sponsor and stand behind the work of the New Zealand Police Managers' Guild Trust. __________________________________ “The cuts, the bruises in the face... the quietness. If it's too often it's not normal” "75 to 80% of the cases we deal with are in families, so they're fearful that they're going to lose their independence or they’re going to get their family into trouble”. Kino works for Vaka Tautua, a national Pacific health provider, and responds to elder abuse cases in West Auckland. The urgency of addressing elder abuse cannot be overstated. The number of older people in New Zealand is set to double in the next 10 to 15 years. “It’s wrong that this is happening. You shouldn’t have to lose the home you’ve lived in all your life and you’ve paid your rent and done the responsible thing. People aren’t just numbers to be discarded.” Fr. John Jimenez Thanks to the collective effort and resistance of these tenants, coupled with local news attention, Helen Byrne and her neighbors have secured their homes against eviction attempts using the Ellis Act. Many at the forefront of advocacy and policy development are detached from the realities of eviction. They comfortably reside in secure homes and properties, adhering to formulaic solutions and talking points, disregarding the immediate consequences and impacts on vulnerable and marginalized groups. Progress in tackling the housing crisis and achieving a progressive housing policy agenda in the United States hinges on our willingness to identify, denounce, and more heavily regulate the behaviors and practices of property managers and landlords, and change the laws that allow them to quite literally disrupt and destroy lives. https://lnkd.in/etiYQj9T https://lnkd.in/eHWAyVeZ
