There is perhaps no better way to appreciate our lakes than to preserve and share them with generations to come. 👨👩👧 One of the best ways we can do that is by protecting our healthy lakes, and restoring the ones that need help. However, quick fixes are usually never the answer to deep-rooted problems. This is why HEI is proud to have offered long-lasting solutions for more 50 years, and looks forward to doing the same for your lake restoration project. By bringing old buildings into the future through reuse and retrofitting, we can prevent and reduce harmful carbon emissions. And by adapting our #historic #places to withstand increasing #climate-#related #impacts—from sea level rise, #storms, and #floods, to #drought and #wildfire—we can help historic communities become more #resilient. https://lnkd.in/d7KaQtK

While #mangrove planting is hugely popular, most planting efforts fail to restore functional mangrove forests effectively. Successful restoration relies on creating the right conditions for mangroves to regenerate naturally. Wetlands International has therefore adopted a more effective approach called Community-Based Ecological Mangrove Restoration (CBEMR) in its projects together with Mangrove Action Project (MAP). We have been building the capacity of close to 700 stakeholders around the world to use and upscale the approach through regular CBEMR trainings. It is more cost-effective to prevent mangrove loss than to lose and restore them. 👉 Learn why: https://lnkd.in/gXxUiwdj #WeNeedWetlands #MangroveRestoration #naturebasedsolutions #WorldMangroveDay #ClimateAction #BiodiversityLoss #GenerationRestoration #ForNature

Greater sage-grouse depend on sagebrush landscapes, but those ecosystems are disappearing. Grazing can be damaging, but in some situations, it can benefit the insects the birds depend on. https://hubs.li/Q02mmyMV0

These remarkable trees often grow in sandy and arid environments, and their extensive root systems help stabilize the soil, preventing it from washing away during heavy rains and strong winds. This is vital in helping to prevent desertification and preserving the natural environment! #corkoaktrees #soilerosion #desertification #corkforest

🌍 Today is #WorldEnvironmentDay and the focus is on restoring land to prevent desertification and drought, both of which severely impact the health of ecosystems. 💡Click below to download this informative guide. It leads us through the issues and what can be done at various levels to #makeadifference. ❓️Did you know that: • Soil is critical for the number of organism that call it home (almost 60% of all species) and for the large amounts of carbon it can store when it's healthy. • Having trees in urban areas reduces the air temperature by up to 5°C which reduces air conditioning needs. •Soil is eroding much faster than it is being created. We lose the equivalent of one football pitch of soil every five seconds. Yet, it takes 1,000 years to produce 3 centimetres (just over one inch) of topsoil. #FactsConnectionAction #TheCarbonAlmanac
