some unique in-flight experiences you might experience with Middle Eastern airlines: 1-Dates and Arabic Coffee: When flying with Middle Eastern carriers like Emirates, Etihad, or Qatar Airways, you’ll often receive a warm welcome with a small tray of dates and a cup of Arabic coffee. It’s a delightful way to start your journey. The coffee is usually flavored with cardamom and served in a tiny handleless cup. 2-In-Flight Prayer: On some Middle Eastern airlines, you might notice passengers standing up and facing Mecca during prayer times. The cabin crew usually announce the Qibla direction, and passengers perform their prayers in the aisle or at the back of the plane. 3-Business Class Luxury: Middle Eastern airlines are famous for their business and first-class cabins. Expect seats that convert into fully flat beds, gourmet meals served on fine china, and top-notch amenities. You’ll feel like royalty, even at 30,000 feet. #middleast #travel #cabincrew #firstclass #infographics #iraq #erbil #baghdad #UAE #Saudiarabia #Qatar

Are you surprised that Saudia is the 2nd largest in the Gulf after Emirates (and not QR or EY)? Or that Flyadeal is larger than AirArabia among LCCs? That's the underdog effect. If you look at the Top 10 airlines by seats in the Middle East (thanks, OAG) for August 2024, you will find some interesting insights. While the perception may be that the "ME Big3" are Emirates, Qatar and Etihad, the reality is different. Saudia is bigger than Qatar Airways thanks to the 11% annual seat growth. Despite Etihad's 30% annual growth, it's outside the top 5! If you combine the growth at flynas and flyadeal, which is 17% and 12%, respectively, you'll see that Saudi Arabia is the fastest-growing aviation market in the region. In fact, Flyadeal is now larger than the traditional LCC leader in the region - Air Arabia. Having lived in the region and worked with most of these airlines in the last 17 years, I know you always need to look under the hood to get the true picture. From Qatar Airways, which became the largest international airline during the pandemic, to helping to start Flyadeal as one of the strongest LCCs today. As these airlines balance their growth with sustainability priorities, it will be interesting to see the paths they take. Did you get any surprising insights from this chart?

In an exclusive interview with CNBC – his first since being appointed Qatar Airways’ Group chief executive officer in November 2023, Al-Meer stated: “This is a new era.” He said: “Based on the demand from certain sectors, we see a high demand for First Class, and as such, have decided to introduce a newly-designed First Class cabin unique to Qatar Airways. No one can develop a First Class cabin better than us – we are combining the experience of flying commercial and executive jets to develop something new. We are 70 to 80 per cent ready and are only finalising colours. We are hoping to announce it soon.” Badr Al-Meer further revealed Qatar Airways’ redesign of its premium Qsuite set to debut at the Farnborough International Airshow in July 2024. Qatar Airways' award-winning Qsuite Business Class challenged industry norms when it was launched in 2017, and continues to be a benchmark for the aviation industry.
