Single-aisle middle-of-market (MoM) aircraft become more important Deployment post-pandemic was rapid, and close to one-third of US domestic traffic flies on them. It's over 60% at Alaska Airlines, ~40% at American Airlines, ~55% at Delta Air Lines, and ~40% at United Airlines. This is why the United Airlines #A321 move is so important and why Boeing has to bring the #MAX10 to the market ASAP. It is always fascinating in this industry.

Could Air Canada Ever Order The Boeing 777X? In September 2023, Air Canada announced that it would be acquiring 18 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners with options for another 12. The first delivery of these is scheduled for late 2025. While these new aircraft will "be used to replace older, less efficient wide-body aircraft," it's still not a direct replacement for the carrier's 777-300ERs. Considering the airline's close relationship with Boeing and a move away from Airbus widebodies, could the upcoming 777-9 be chosen as the successor to the -300ER? The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration ( #FAA ) has recommended visual inspections for #Boeing 737-900ER aircraft due to their similarities with the model involved in a mid-air emergency on an Alaska #Airlines flight on January 5, 2024. These inspections should primarily concentrate on “mid-exit door plugs,” as specified by the FAA in a statement. This is the same type of panel that became detached during the incident on Alaska Airlines flight 1282. The Boeing 737-900ER is utilised by #Alaska, #Delta, and several international airlines. Although older than the 737 Max 9 involved in the Alaska flight incident, it shares the same door plug design, according to the FAA. It is essential to emphasise that there is currently no evidence suggesting any issues or defects with the mid-exit door plugs on the 737-900ER, as highlighted by the FAA. This particular model has accumulated 11 million hours of operation. The FAA also noted that operators had previously conducted extra inspections of the 737-900ER following the emergency on Alaska Airlines. The recent announcement underscores the necessity for operators to ensure that the door plugs are securely fastened, adding an extra layer of safety.

Alaska Airlines' first 737 MAX isn't just taking off today; it's navigating a legal tightrope. Every bolt and wire has undergone intense scrutiny. Only meticulous checks earn an airworthy stamp. Transparency paves the way, rebuilding confidence one flight at a time. Alaska's fleet returns one by one, ensuring seamless integration and unwavering safety, never taking shortcuts. But the journey's not over. Every MAX, worldwide, must reach these same heights. This is a turning point, a cautious step towards normalcy. But full trust needs more than just take-off. Constant vigilance, shared responsibility, and open dialogue are the fuel for a brighter aviation future. This return isn't a victory lap; it's a cautious step within a complex legal dance.
Alaska Airlines says the first of its 65 grounded Boeing 737-9 Max aircraft should return to service on Friday 26 January, following inspections that are expected to take up to 12h per aircraft. This Cirium data snapshot shows how significant the 737-9 is to Alaska’s operation, accounting for 29% of its current fleet of 228 Boeing aircraft. Additionally, the airline holds 28 firm orders for the 737-9, as well as 43 for the larger 737-10 variant. Alaska statement: https://bit.ly/3ROk8VT #737max

As part of a fleet modernization plan, in 2014, Air Canada ordered 61 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The original order consisted of 33 737-8 MAX aircraft and 28 of the 737-9 MAX. The challenging economic conditions of the pandemic led to a modification of the order to just 40 of the -8 MAX variant (which probably led to sigh of relief last month). The first delivery took place on 31 October 2017 with C-FTJV and the last aircraft, C-GEPG, was delivered on 5 August 2022. This particular aircraft is C-GEPB (fleet number 534) heading out at Boston Logan International Airport - BOS. It was delivered to Air Canada on 19 April 2022. I love seeing the old maple leaf rondelle back on the tail. I think it's been nearly 25 years since the rondelle style logo was used on the tails of Air Canada's jets. When I was a kid, Toronto was a regular family trip destination (nearly yearly) as we had a large extended family there. The top level of the parking garage of the old Aeroquay One terminal was a great place to see all the Air Canada rondelles and the multimarks on the tails of CP Air's colorful jets. #avgeek #aviation #airlines #aircraft
