CHICAGO- United (UA) and American Airlines (AA) expressed their support for the plan proposed by the Chicago city earlier in April to alter the construction sequence for a new Global Terminal and two adjacent satellite concourses at O'Hare Airport (ORD). Great news for the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) - O'Hare & Midway International Airports and the #airport #industry! American Airlines and United Airlines on Friday announced support for extensive renovations at O'Hare International Airport, effectively allowing a major rebuilding project to proceed, weeks after #Chicago #Mayor #Brandon #Johnson made key revisions to the construction schedule. American and United, the airport's largest carriers, signed off on the Terminal Area Project after the city proposed changing the order of construction on the new Global Terminal and nearby satellite concourses, the Chicago Tribune reported. In a reversal of previous plans, work on the new terminal, which is slated to replace Terminal 2, will be accelerated, while the construction of two satellite concourses will be delayed. American Airlines, in a statement following news of the agreement, in part commended Johnson "for his commitment to phase the project in a way that prioritizes the Global Terminal and the most impactful elements of TAP..." A #BizAv building boom in New York led by The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and Sky Harbour Group is a welcome development for private aviation in the metropolitan region adding much-needed aircraft shelter space to what is one of busiest airspaces in the country. NEW: The Port Authority has awarded joint-venture firm Tutor Perini/O&G with a design-build contract to replace Newark Liberty International Airport's existing outmoded AirTrain system.
