While they seem interchangeable, a crucial distinction lies in their underlying units: 🔢 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝘀 (𝗠𝗶𝗕, 𝗚𝗶𝗕, 𝗞𝗶𝗕): These are based on powers of 2 (1024) and offer a more accurate representation of digital storage, especially for modern devices that operate internally using binary units. 🔟 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘅𝗲𝘀 (𝗠𝗕, 𝗚𝗕, 𝗞𝗕): These are based on powers of 10 (1000) and were traditionally used. However, the gap between these units and actual storage capacity can be misleading. 📐 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 - 𝟭 𝗠𝗶𝗕 = 1.048576 MB (slightly larger than 1 MB) - 𝟭 𝗚𝗶𝗕 = 1.073742 GB (slightly larger than 1 GB) - 𝟭 𝗞𝗶𝗕 = 1.024 KB (slightly larger than 1 KB) 📌 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 Using the correct units ensures clear communication and avoids confusion when discussing storage capacities.
