This #InternationalDayofCharity, we celebrate of all of our partners in Spain, Iceland, Austria, and Germany who have joined us in our mission to improve outcomes for children of parents with mental illness. Most developed countries recognise the children of parents with a mental illness as an at-risk group. In the UK, young people cannot get help until they themselves become ill. We are the only UK charity focused on this issue, and now our approach is being rolled out across Europe. As a small charity, we rely entirely on individual and organisational donations, so that we can continue to reach out to families who need support. Did you know that 200,000 people are living with sight loss in London and just under 700,000 (1 in every 12 adults) are living with a sight threatening condition? That’s why we are working with Fight for Sight / Vision Foundation, to help them support their vision of a future where people living with sight loss are equal citizens and preventable blindness is a thing of the past. We awarded a grant to the organisation to deliver an online event for blind and partially sighted people between 16 and 25, highlighting the importance of maintaining mental fitness. The event served as a prequel to a set of four in-person activity days organised in partnership with Jamie’s Farm. Each activity day offered 10 young people the chance to spend a day outdoors in nature, working with animals and participating in challenges and activities that allowed them to explore themselves and their well-being journeys. “It was great to be given tasks that you don’t normally do and be given the opportunity to complete them independently. I particularly enjoyed interacting with the animals and chopping firewood.” – Sam, Event Participant IICF recognises that the UK has one of the poorest rates of social mobility in the developed world. We’re working to change this by uniting the industry in volunteering, leadership and grants to social mobility charities. In the UK we’ve raised nearly £2M to change the lives of more than 7,500 people in the communities in which we live and work. We only succeed if we work as a community! I do not believe in individual success, just in community success…. And here is why: You cannot build something sustainable alone. You cannot go further if you go all alone. Here is a good example: Just a Change Project and RSCDS Project. What’s the Just a Change Project? It is a charity company that focuses on the reconstruction of buildings for poor people.  It’s a popular charity organisation among students and Youth. Why? Because their focus is to help people in need improve their houses. Here is another example: the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society or RSCDS, is a good example of how community wins over individuals… So, what’s RSCDS? Is a non-profit organization that focuses on preserving the dance tradition of Scotland. Due to its foundation in the 50s to this day has gathered people around the world (From the Americas to all of Asia and Australia) to dance. So let’s stop thinking individually and let’s start winning as a community. #Community #Comunidade

Our next face-to-face is happening on Sunday 17th November at 10am in Kent. For children with JIA aged 5+ (siblings aged 5+ are welcome too), we have arranged an incredible Chocolate Workshop near Tunbridge Wells. Places for this 2 hour workshop are usually £35 per child but thanks to a grant we have received, we are able to offer subsidised spaces at £5 per child. (Please don't let finances be the reason that you don't attend - so please let Katherine know in confidence if finances are an issue.)
