As we continue to demand gender equity and justice in our everyday lives, it is important to recognise that healthcare is far from equal for all. Women as well as non-binary, intersex and other queer individuals often have their symptoms dismissed by healthcare professionals, receive less accurate diagnoses, face longer wait times, and are vastly underrepresented in all aspects of medical research. This is in addition to the greater financial burden that we face in accessing health services and health products like sanitary pads, i.e. the pink tax. There are inequities that are also built into the system such as lack of sexual and reproductive health knowledge, disparities in food intake, lack of autonomy in household decision-making and financial exclusion, all of which translate into poorer health outcomes, especially for women. It's time to bridge these gaps and push for a better health system that provides the kind of care that we all deserve. #MindTheGap #HealthEquity #InclusiveHealthcare #GenderEquity #Healthcare #Health #womenshealth

The third component of the multifaceted approach advocates often use to place patients at the center of their care is: 3️⃣ The Representation of Underrepresented Groups Patient advocates play a crucial role in bringing the voices of underrepresented and underserved populations to the forefront. They actively participate in the development of healthcare policy, shaping national debates about healthcare and advocating for health equity for all. 🙋🏿 🙋🏻♂️ 🙋🏾♀️ Our healthcare system cannot be considered truly equitable or successful until everyone can receive the medical care they need and deserve regardless of race, gender identity, education level, employment and socioeconomic status, and more. 🏥 #patientadvocacy #patientadvocate #patientcenteredadvocacy #healthequity #healthadvocacy #healthcare

Excited to share that I had the opportunity to present at an International Conference, contributing to a paper on Generational Gender Perspectives in Literature and Media G2LM '23 My presentation focused on Gender Bias in Medical and Health Disease, shedding light on the disparities in healthcare that impact the quality of treatment and diagnosis across genders, with a particular emphasis on women and marginalized communities. Gender bias in healthcare is a serious issue that affects the quality and effectiveness of care, and can lead to misdiagnosis, inequitable treatment, and poor health outcomes. It can impact people of all genders, but it primarily affects women and marginalized genders and highlighting how healthcare systems often display biases that can lead to misdiagnosis, inequitable treatment, and poorer health outcomes. This issue, while impacting individuals of all genders, disproportionately affects women and marginalized genders.Addressing gender bias in healthcare is not only crucial for improving patient outcomes, but also for fostering a more inclusive and equitable medical field. #GenderBias #HealthcareEquality #MedicalResearch #GenderDisparities #InclusiveHealth #WomenInMedicine #ConferencePresentation #PaperPresentation

I help health professionals learn about Transgender and Non-binary health through training and technical assistance to reduce health disparities and maximize health potential.
Transgender and Non-Binary people face significant health disparities due to discrimination and limited access to affirming healthcare. 🌟 Policy Development: Develop inclusive policies supporting TGNB individuals (non-discrimination, respectful language, gender-affirming care). Communicate and enforce policies consistently. Creating Safe Spaces: Ask and use pronouns consistently with all patients. Provide universal accommodations (gender- neutral restrooms, ADA compliant door frames, and door stoppers to prevent slamming). Advocacy and Policy Engagement: Advocate privately for policy changes to remove systemic barriers to care and promote health equity at local, state, and national levels. Education and Awareness: Ensure all staff are educated about TGNB health disparities and barriers to care. Provide capacity-building training to reduce barriers and improve health outcomes. Join us in learning about health equity and how we can all take action. Whether through keynote speeches or strategic coaching, we empower healthcare providers to better serve Transgender, Non-Binary, and Intersex communities. UK Manchester opportunity to shape LGBTQIA+ Healthcare information We are currently hosting COUCH Conversations, a series of community conversations about sex and gender diversity in healthcare to help inform the future of inclusive healthcare. Here’s our event page with more info: COUCH Conversations. https://lnkd.in/eqXRtQj2 We are looking to invite groups or individuals across Manchester. There will be four 90-minute online sessions which will explore different topics related to healthcare. The sessions will involve panelist speakers, interactive discussions, and Q&A. It is not essential to attend all four sessions and there will be options to pick and choose which sessions you are most interested in. The aim of the research is to produce actionable how-to guides for both healthcare practitioners, to ensure best practice for inclusive and gender-affirming healthcare, and for LGBTQIA+ people, families, and allies to advocate for themselves and others with practical advice, tips, and resources for navigating healthcare experiences. “Approximately 1 percent of healthcare research and innovation is invested in female-specific conditions beyond oncology,” according to McKinsey. Forbes 2023 I am just one of the hundreds of thousands of young women in the UK living with Long-Term Health Conditions. Affecting people’s ability to live independently with financial security, rent and work in the Cost of Living Crisis. Not every woman will be able to work a part-time 30-hour week. Women have so much potential, but they need the opportunity to thrive in flexible and supportive working environments. The privileged white men need to step aside. We need more people with real life experiences to make decisions.
