Juniper Advisory suggests an innovative approach to address the growing crisis in access to obstetrics services. Jordan Shields, Partner, Casey Webb, Managing Director, and Duncan Cannon, Analyst, assess the challenges that have resulted in dwindling access and identify an overlooked solution. The emerging obstetrics crisis paints a bleak picture for access to maternity and childbirth services outside of America’s cities. Want to catch all 25 Presentations from MICROBIRTH SUMMIT 2024? Immediate access and 12 Hours CPD/CE. Click link in bio.
Day 1 #microbirth2024 Did you know this? In a Dec 2023 study: 100% of Swiss Neonatal Intensive Care Units gave routine #probiotics to babies. This was one of the things Dr Philip Steer, Emeritus Professor, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Imperial College of London talked about in his presentation at the conference. This is a very experienced and very well-respected #obgyn talking about if, why and how we should try to give the benefits of vaginal birth to babies born by C-section. Very inspiring. This conference provides essential learning if you are a #midwife #doula #nurses #childbirtheducator or #doctor or other #maternity health professional. Feels like something powerful is happening.... the 3,500 health professionals attending the conference are learning and connecting.... For more details and a schedule of speakers >>> https://lnkd.in/epVHE3FP #bethechange #microbirth P.S. If you want to know the paper Dr Steer is referencing in this quote: Blanchetière A., et al., State of the Art of Probiotic Use in Neonatal Intensive Care Units in French-Speaking European Countries. Children (Basel). 2023 Dec 5;10(12):1889. doi: 10.3390/children10121889. PMID: 38136091; PMCID: PMC10742297.

Numbers don't lie! First, Lorraine M. Garcia, MA, PhD, WHNP-BC, CNM, thank you for this great piece! As a #midwife myself, having more of a decade of experience in clinical care, I have long advocated for the vital role of midwifery care. Midwives play an essential part in ensuring consistent, accurate follow-up before, during, and after birth. The results speak for themselves: fewer interventions and better outcomes. Midwifery-led care is not only safer but also more cost-effective. When midwives lead the care, the need for costly interventions is reduced, leading to significant savings for #healthcare #systems, #insurers, and ultimately, parents. Strengthening the midwifery workforce isn’t just a matter of better care—it’s a smarter economic choice. It's time for change! Midwives should be the primary caregivers in normal, natural pregnancies and births. But for this to happen, we need alignment between governments, insurers, and professional bodies like midwifery councils worldwide to strengthen the midwifery workforce. Let's spark a global conversation! International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), let's lead the way forward. 🏆Midwives contribute to better clinical outcomes and birth experiences for in hospital care and out of hospital care. 💢 We don't think as often of the practice patterns of Family Physicians who work in obstetrics. Family practice physicians were 53% less likely to perform a cesarean than Ob/Gyn physicians in this sample of over 13,000 low-risk women who presented in spontaneous labor across eight hospitals. 💢 Individual physicians had cesarean rates from 0% to 53.3% from the 5 years of data for this study sample. 💥Maternity care deserts with no access to childbirth services are an increasing reality across the United States.💥 🦉Article at: https://lnkd.in/gkxCeaGJ
