“ECL Announces World’s First 1 Gigawatt #Off-Grid , #HydrogenPowered #AI Factory Data” “#DataCenterasaService pioneer ECL, which unveiled the world’s first off-grid, sustainable, modular, built-to-suit #datacenter on June 20, 2024, today( 25 of September )announced that it will build the first fully sustainable 1GW #AIFactorydatacenter – ECL TerraSite-TX1 on a 600+ acre site east of Houston, with Lambda as its first tenant. The initial phase of TerraSite-TX1 will be delivered in the summer of 2025 at a cost of approximately $450M, with 50MW of data center capacity to be utilized by #datacentercloud and #AIcloud operators. The entire 1GW site will be constructed at a cost of approximately $8B, with funding to be provided by ECL and financial partners.” “Gartner predicts that by 2030, AI could consume up to 3.5% of the world’s electricity. “AI consumes a lot of electricity and water. This negative impact should be mitigated,” said Pieter den Hamer, VP Analyst at Gartner. “Executives should be cognizant of AI’s own growing #environmentalfootprint and take active mitigation measures. For example, they could prioritize (cloud) data centers powered by #renewableenergy .” Photo of ECL Describe more in press release https://shorturl.at/jyM3z https://lnkd.in/eCaXmsXx?
