𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗜𝘀 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆? I’ve been thinking about the changing dynamics of the Lunar New Year. It's funny how traditions hold on, even as everything else changes around us. Lunar New Year has always been a special time. Families come together, and cultural practices are passed down through generations. Communities buzz with energy and warmth. But as times change, noticeable shifts are happening. Younger generations are increasingly adopting urban lifestyles and often drift away from traditional observances. Busy schedules, city life, and different priorities make it challenging to keep those traditions alive. This is understandable but also a bit sad. Then there's technology. It's such a big part of our lives, but it also raises questions about how we can hold onto those unique cultural nuances. How do we celebrate something timeless in a world that's always looking for the next new thing? Still, there's hope. Many are determined to preserve the rich heritage of the Lunar New Year. People are devising creative ways to keep the celebrations vibrant and meaningful even today. So, while the way we celebrate might change, the essence stays. It's about family, connection, and keeping traditions alive. And that’s something worth holding onto, no matter where the future takes us. #LunarNewYear #Tradition #Family #CulturalHeritage

Happy Lunar New Year! The Year of the Snake has begun, bringing with it themes of renewal, transformation, and growth. This special time, celebrated across many Asian cultures, marks the first new moon of the lunar calendar and heralds the arrival of spring. For those born in the Year of the Snake, this sign is associated with resilience, courage, and strong leadership qualities. While sometimes viewed as mysterious or intimidating, the Snake is also deeply tenacious—a fitting symbol for embracing change and shedding negativity as we move forward. The Lunar New Year is one of the most significant celebrations in Chinese culture and is also joyfully marked in countries like Vietnam, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore. Even if you don’t personally celebrate, it’s a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the traditions your colleagues may hold dear. Why not take a moment to connect with your colleagues who celebrate the Lunar New Year? Ask them about their traditions, what the festivities mean to them, and how they celebrate—it’s a great way to build cultural awareness and appreciation. Tomorrow marks the start of the Lunar New Year festivities. This year, we welcome the wood snake, an animal characterised as alert, calm, and smart – traits that bode well for all of us this year as we navigate a world in transition. Wishing all who celebrate a happy, prosperous Year of the Snake. 恭喜发财 (Gong Xi Fa Cai)! (I recently came across a feature story in the South China Morning Post with some interesting facts about the festival – for one, I didn’t know that seventh day marks the birthday of humans, which essentially means it’s everyone’s birthday! According to one legend, there is a reason for the order of the animals in the cycle. A race was held to cross a great river, and the order of the animals in the cycle was based upon their order in finishing the race. In this story, the snake compensated for not being the best swimmer by hitching a hidden ride on the Horse's hoof. When the horse was about to cross the finish line, the snake jumped out, scaring the horse, and thus edging it out for sixth place. The same twelve animals are also used to symbolize the cycle of hours in the day, each being associated with a two-hour time period. The hour of the snake is 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., the time when the Sun warms up the Earth, and snakes are said to slither out of their holes. The month of the snake is the 4th month of the Chinese lunar calendar and it usually falls within the months of May through June depending on the Chinese to Gregorian calendar conversion. The reason the animal signs are referred to as zodiacal is that one's personality is said to be influenced by the animal signs ruling the time of birth, together with elemental aspects of the animal signs within the sexagenary cycle. Similarly, the year governed by a particular animal sign is supposed to be characterized by it, with the effects particularly strong for people who were born in any year governed by the same animal sign. In our western Christian religion, the snake is a symbol of the devil. Please read Genesis 3 in the Bible. By the way, I was born end of May

Happy Year of the Snake 🐍 to all those celebrating today! As a British Born Chinese who understands Cantonese, wishing you Gung Hei Fat Choi (Happy New Year) and since we're on LinkedIn 生意興隆 Saang Yi Hing Lung (May your business flourish). For anybody who wishes to join in the well wishes - hope this helps :) Chinese New Year is generally celebrated by the Chinese and Lunar New Year is the more inclusive phrase for those in other countries who also celebrate this time of year. There's two common Chinese languages - Cantonese and Mandarin. Mandarin is used mainly in China and Cantonese mostly in HK/USA/UK. From a personal experience, I can't read or write Chinese but understand some basic spoken Cantonese (wording at the top) but if you're not using English in your comms, make sure you pick the language that you want to use for your audience.
Happy Lunar New Year to all those celebrating in our community! #WeAreNCL #LunarNewYear #YearOfTheSnake

The 2025 Lunar New Year, also called Spring Festival, marks the beginning of the Year of the Snake according to the Chinese zodiac. The New Year is traditional to many East Asian countries such as China, South Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam, which are regulated by moon and sun cycles. The holiday is marked by the second moon after December 21 (winter solstice) and lasts 15 days. Traditional celebrations often begin with family reunions, elaborate feasts, and the exchange of red envelopes containing money as a symbol of good fortune. Communities worldwide celebrate the Lunar New Year with a blend of cultural performances, parades, and modern festivities. Lion and dragon dances, firecrackers, and lantern displays create vibrant spectacles that captivate locals and tourists alike. The snake is associated with wisdom and intuition, making 2025 a year believed to bring intellectual growth and strategic opportunities. With a theme of transformation and renewal, the Lunar New Year serves as a meaningful time for individuals to reflect on the past and set their intentions for the year ahead.
