As #bladderhealthawareness month winds down, we want to stress the importance of screening all women for #urinaryincontinence. This published #infographic can help. It synthesizes current evidenced-based literature and #UI #screening #guidelines, position statements, and associated references from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the Women’s Preventive Services Initiative, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Physicians, the SOCIETY OF URODYNAMICS AND FEMALE UROLOGY RESEARCH FOUNDATION INC, the American Urological Association, and the American Urogynecologic Society. Packaged in a graphical, easy-to-access format, the screening tool depicts #female UI risk factors, influences on care-seeking, screening, and evaluation. It also includes a stepwise #treatment approach for which there is broad international and multidisciplinary agreement. Thank you to the study authors, Axena Health's chief medical officer Samantha Pulliam, Vice President of Clinical Affairs and Global Health Jessica McKinney, PT, DScPT, MS and Director of Clinical Strategy and Global Health Laura Keyser, DPT, MPH. https://lnkd.in/e9xaD7RA #bladderhealthmonth #obgyn #nurses #nursepractitioner #physicians #womenshealthcare #womenshealthcoach #health

Did you know? People over 65 use more healthcare services and are responsible for nearly half of hospital admissions. However, there are only 7,300 board-certified geriatricians in the US, less than 1% of all physicians (representing 1 geriatrician for every 10,000 patients). Compare that to over 60,000 pediatricians in 2021. Research shows geriatricians can provide better care for older patients, leading to lower death rates, shorter hospital stays, and reduced costs. Only 41.5% of geriatric medicine fellowship positions were filled in late 2023. With the older population expected to grow by nearly 40% within the decade, coordinated care for our elders is more crucial than ever. #Healthcare #AgingPopulation #GeriatricCare

A newborn's life requires a constant and special attention. Yet, some practices and parameters are not standardized across hospitals, which could impact it. Caregivers and doctors have to juggle with patients’ data all day long. Some of these data needs to be taken more seriously than others. For example, bilirubin levels, which are used to monitor the onset of Jaundice in newborns. ⚠️💀 Let's remember that this condition can be dangerous, even fatal, in the first month after birth. Pediatric nurses check the bilirubin levels (called TcB) using standard curves and interpretation charts. If it's too high, the newborn is placed under phototherapy. The risk is developing jaundice, a liver condition that affects the brain…🧠⚡️ 🙍🏻♀️ It's evident that the standards and tolerance applied to these bilirubin levels do not translate into the same curves across hospitals... ⚙️ ... So Galeon, in its quest to unify #data in hospitals, proposes a new update this week👨🏼⚕️🩺 The interpretation curves in obstetrics are evolving, including the one for the baby's TcB level. It's being added to the reporting available in Galeon. This update will primarily allow hospitals to align on a standardized curve for everyone, while respecting the uniqueness of each hospital. Which is a delicate balance to achieve as a hospital software. 👉🏻 This is the biggest update ever asked for Galeon. Today, this functionality exists only in Galeon.

Make the most of value-based care and ensure success for your medical practice with these 7 tips! "Since the Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010, CMS has been encouraging physician practices to move from a fee-for-service payment model to one that rewards value. It has been testing models that incentivize clinicians to provide preventive, proactive, and appropriate care that improves patient outcomes and experience and decreases unnecessary healthcare spending. Most recently, it has focused on ensuring health equity across all patient populations." #Physicians #Doctors #Pediatricians #PhysicianPractice #MedicalPractice #PediatricPractice

As an L&D nurse, one of the things I hear most often is “well my friend said…” 😵💫 Interestingly, their friend never said anything nice. The pit was awful, their bag was ruptured too early, or their doctor used a torture device- a vacuum. These are just a few of the horror stories these “friends” share with you. But if they were really your friends, why wouldn’t they share encouraging stories to help ignite your excitement for the big day?? Trust me, your physician wants to use a vacuum on you as much as they want to use a vacuum at home. But vacuums DO have a place in obstetrics. So when is that? ✳️ When maternal effort is lost after hours of pushing, we are near crowning/crowning, and no amount of coaching is assisting the patient to find the strength within herself to continue on. ✳️ When fetal heart tones indicate distress and delivery needs to be expedited and the fetal station is optimal for an operative vaginal delivery. ✳️ When pushing is contraindicated due to cardiovascular or neurologic disease (these cases are largely scheduled C/S’s). There’s definitely contraindications: 🛑 Prior to 34 weeks gestation 🛑 Known fetal disorders such as hemophilia, thrombocytopenia, or osteogenesis imperfecta 🛑 Breech/face/Brow/Shoulder presentation 🛑 Suspected LGA (large for gestational age) baby 🛑 Prior FSE (fetal scalp electrode) placement 🛑 Incomplete dilation With the vacuum I have pictured here (which is most commonly used today), it can safely be applied to babies that are OA (occiput anterior/facedown), OP (occiput posterior/faceup), OT (occiput transverse/ sideways), or delivering via C/S (cesarean section). Bottom line- don’t be scared. Your physician will explain a vacuum first and obtain your consent prior to using one. There are risks, but sometimes those risks outweigh the risks of delaying delivery. An open conversation with your healthcare team is best! Have any questions? Never hesitate to ask M.E. as I would love to help! #operativevaginaldelivery #vaginaldelivery #vacuumassistedvaginaldelivery

A recent publication in Cureus Journal of Medical Science by Shinya Tomori and colleagues sheds light on a critical issue: Dorsal Hand Compartment Syndrome in infants, triggered by the intravenous infiltration of Glucose Acetate Ringer’s Solution. This study, published in 2024, presents cases where infants developed this rare but severe condition, highlighting the need for #vigilance and caution in the administration of intravenous fluids. One infant required a releasing incision due to the severity of the condition, underscoring the potential for serious #sideeffects and the importance of #earlydetection and response. This research serves as a crucial reminder of the responsibilities #healthcareprofessionals carry in #paediatriccare, especially concerning the use of commonly administered solutions. For more than two years, the Institute worked closely with the lead author, Dr. Akhil Maheshwari, who sought the Institute’s input on his ambitious project of publishing the most comprehensive textbook to date in the field of neonatology. Written by leading global experts in the field, including the Institute, Principles of Neonatology provides neonatal intensive care units (NICU) with clinically focused, evidence-based guidance in an easy-to-access format. Dr. Maheshwari recruited more than 200 experts from around the world to document his omnibus textbook of the most current evidence-based practices. Each chapter covers the key topics of greatest and most frequent concern to NICU clinicians, delivering current, data-driven management and treatment advice in a single source relevant to the seasoned practitioner, fellow or trainee. “Principles of Neonatology is not only a milestone in the field of neonatology, it’s also a milestone for the Institute as we seek the widespread adoption of a reproductive grief standard of care,” added Dr. Michaelene Fredenburg, President and CEO of the Institute. https://ow.ly/EfU550QbLwJ #neonatology #michaelenefredenburg #instituteofreproductivegriefcare #principlesofneonatology #AkhilMaheshwari #NICU #nicunurse #healthcare #research #groundbreakingresearch #medicalfield
