🚀 Celebrating the Pioneers of Technological Advancement in AI 🚀 As AI continues to revolutionize the world, we take a moment to honour one of the founding fathers of Artificial Intelligence: John McCarthy. Self-taught in mathematics, McCarthy graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 1948. His journey into AI was ignited after attending a symposium on Cerebral Mechanisms in Behaviour, where he became passionate about developing machines that could think like humans. In 1951, McCarthy earned his PhD in mathematics from Princeton. His academic journey led him to Dartmouth and MIT, where he became a full professor at Stanford in 1962. At Dartmouth, McCarthy forged a lasting friendship with Marvin Minsky, and together they co-founded the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. Though their paths diverged, McCarthy's return to Stanford marked the founding of Stanford’s AI Laboratory (SAIL), a hub for ground breaking AI research. During the 60s and 70s, SAIL made remarkable strides, developing systems that mimicked human skills such as vision, hearing, reasoning, and movement. McCarthy's impact extended beyond AI; he also welcomed the Homebrew Computer Club to meet at Stanford, fostering an environment that would shape the future of technology. Among its members were Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, who would go on to found Apple. As we continue to push the boundaries of what AI can achieve, we stand on the shoulders of giants like John McCarthy, whose vision and innovation paved the way for today's advancements. 🌟 Have a look at the video from Did You Know? Well, it's happening. In spades. The advances are coming in hot and heavy. The recently announced Groq inference chip greases the way for heavy duty AI in your pocket. Transformer enhancement and ANN architectural exploitation is changing the information calculus. Hang on to your hats. Ironically, I am getting some nifty input from the very beast that I am inquiring about. Claude3 is really impressive. But GPT5 will probably leapfrog ahead of claude3 before the end of the year. A classic arms race. Where is this all going? Imagine a world where formal information dispensing forums are obsolete. Anything you want to know about anything will be at your fingertips. Literally. You won't have to hand 100 grand over to some dudes in lecture halls to become knowledgeable. What will society be like when the insecurity of "not knowing" is replaced by the confidence of always being able to instantly find out? It's a done deal. We have harnessed mathematics in a novel way and created a process that vastly improves our ability to understand the world. A Cambrian-like evolutionary event.
