Did you know that concrete has made its way beyond our planet? It's not just an earthly construction material; it has boldly gone where few materials have gone before—space! Imagine the International Space Station (ISS), a microcosm of life beyond our atmosphere, where astronauts live and work in the vastness of space. Surrounded by the vast emptiness of the cosmos, they find the familiar presence of specially formulated space-grade concrete. This cosmic application of concrete is more than just a fun fact; it highlights the adaptability and versatility of this common construction material. In the harsh environment of space, concrete on the ISS plays a crucial role in providing a familiar and reliable structure for astronauts to live and conduct experiments. It's a testament to the ingenuity of human engineering, bringing a piece of home into the vast unknown. So, next time you look up at the stars, remember that even in the far reaches of space, concrete is there, bridging the gap between the Earth and the cosmos. “Congratulations #PolarisProgram and @SpaceX on the first commercial spacewalk in history!” Nelson wrote. “Today’s success represents a giant leap forward for the #commercialspace industry and #NASA’s long-term goal to build a vibrant U.S. space economy.” Reviving the 1960s and “coloirizing” it with vastly more sophisticated technology so we can appreciate the sociotechnical #infrastructure building of the last 20 years and thus appreciate the #expeditionary #science and #engineering that right now is creating capabilities that #future generations will experience as overnight #success.

Recent leaks in space vessels underscores the critical role of digital tech in space exploration. Real-time analytics and advanced diagnostics are not just tools, but lifelines that ensure mission success and crew safety. As we venture further into space, let’s continue to improve and leverage digital tools in both development and operations. #simcenter #space #boeing

TechCrunch Space: Star(side)liner Hello and invited backmost to TechCrunch Space. For those who haven’t heard, the archetypal crewed motorboat of Boeing’s Starliner capsule has been pushed backmost yet again to nary earlier than May 25. From NASA: “The further clip allows teams to further measure a tiny helium leak successful the Boeing Starliner spacecraft’s work module traced to a flange connected a azygous absorption power strategy thruster.” Better harmless than sorry, of course, but I can’t accidental I’m not anxious to spot this very, precise expensive, precise delayed capsule fly. Scheduling note: TechCrunch Space volition beryllium disconnected connected May 27 successful observance of Memorial Day. I’ll spot you backmost present June 3. Want to scope retired with a tip? Email Aria astatine aria.techcrunch@gmail.com oregon nonstop maine a connection connected Signal astatine 512-937-3988. You besides tin nonstop a enactment to the full TechCrunch unit at tips@techcrunch.com. Story of the week This isn’t immense quality oregon anything, but I thought it was truly chill that Intuitive Machines fundamentally confirmed that it has been successful speech with NASA implicit however the institution could usage its tech to enactment the Mars Sample Return (MSR) mission. MSR has been struggling with ballooning costs and an overly analyzable architecture, and it’s precisely the benignant of high-risk, high-reward ngo that backstage manufacture could excel astatine executing. Image Credits: Intuitive Machines (opens successful a caller window) What we’re reading “What we’re reading” is erstwhile again “what we’re watching.” This week, I privation to highly recommend this interrogation with technologist and economist Sinéad O’Sullivan. She has a…bearish…take connected the abstraction industry, but I deliberation it’s required listening for folks who could possibly payment from a world check. This week successful abstraction past It feels a spot cruel to bring this up successful the aforesaid contented that I notation different Starliner delay, BUT 12 years agone connected May 22 SpaceX launched its 2nd test-flight of its cargo Dragon spacecraft. (Hey! Starliner is crewed! It’s different!) SpaceX has present completed 9 cargo missions to the International Space Station. Image Credits: NASA https://ift.tt/FAW48Zt
