Day One at the IDGA Defense Logistics and Support Conference is in the books! And it was exceptional!
Dr. Allan Day, Maj Gen, USAF (Ret.) opened up the conference with a look back at certain recent events (key bridge collision, Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack, CrowdStrike, etc) that have affected commercial logistics operations across our country. He then went on to talk about the physical devastation and humanitarian crisis caused by active shooting wars in Ukraine, Israel and Iran, as well as the the future GPC challenge our Nation is facing.
LTG Mark Simerly, Director of DLA, gave an overview of the DLA enterprise and addressed the DLA imperatives recently outlined in the 2025-2030 DLA strategic plan...People, Precision, Posture, and Partnerships.
We then had a phenomenal "Service 4" panel with Lt Gen Tom Miller, VADM Jeff Jablon, Mr. Bruce Hollywood and BG Beth Behn. Each of these senior leaders addressed the issues, challenges, and initiatives within their Service. "Our homeland is no longer a sanctuary" and "we're going to have to fight to get to the fight" were two comments that really drove home the point of how important it is we continue to aggressively prepare for the future.
I had the honor of moderating the "Driving Logistics Innovation Through AI and Data" panel...with our amazing panelists Mr. Adarryl Roberts (DLA), Mr. Shannon Boykin (AF/A4), Mr. Donald Anderson (AMC/A9) and Mr. Greg Little (Palantir). The panel detailed that the effective use of data and the smart implementation of AI/ML capabilities are absolutely key factors to supporting the timely, informed decisions necessary to meet current and future needs.
BG Forrest Poole, the Assistant Deputy Commandant For Installations And Logistics (Logistics Division), talked about the importance of developing data literacy across our entire #dod workforce.
These were just a few of the sessions...and day two promises to be another great gathering of logistics professionals.
