Albedo or solar reflectance is the percentage of solar energy reflected by a surface and is measured on a scale of 0-1, 0 representing no reflectance and 1 representing the highest reflectance. The Albedo of an asphalt pavement is as low as 0.05, while for a concrete pavement it's around 0.4, as concrete pavement tends to reflect more sunlight compared to asphalt pavement which absorbs more heat. Is Grey a life saver? One of the advantages of concrete pavement which I found, is much safer night driving. The lighter colored road surface helps bounce off more of the headlight beam which increases the visibility, on and off the road and surroundings.
