My journey into clinical psychology was not straightforward, but it was incredibly rewarding. Here's why I chose this path and how I can help you do the same. I took AP Psychology in high school because my cousin had taken it and then majored in psychology in college because (your guessed it!) my cousin had as well. Not the deepest starting point for such a meaningful career. My mom was a teacher and so I had always volunteered with kids. I decided that if I were to pursue psychology in higher education, I would want to specialize in working with youth. I decided I wanted to be a "child psychopathologist." Because of this, my college advisor said that my only option was to get a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. (Of course, I now know that I could have also gotten a Psy.D. or master's!) As I was completing my clinical psychology doctoral program, I started getting specialized training in the anxiety and OCD-spectrum disorders, which would end up being my area of clinical practice as a fully grown psychologist. What I began to realize was that these were the disorders that had plagued my family for years but had gone without a name or treatment. It's like I was drawn to this work before I understood my "why." Fast forward to today, I love my career as a psychologist in private practice, specializing in the anxiety and OCD-spectrum disorders. We need so many more people working to promote mental health and well-being. That's why I am now providing training on applying for a doctorate in clinical psychology, which I'll link in comments. Yes, people who are applying for a doctorate are very smart and capable people, but there is so much to understand about the field that makes a huge difference in getting through the application process as easily as possible and ending up in the best program for one's preferences and needs. I can't wait to see many people join this amazing career field and how it will impact our nation and world's overall well-being. #PersonalStory #CareerInspiration #PsychologyCareers #PsychologyPhDApplications

While this is not a comprehensive list of every single psychology career out there, the following are just a few of the psychology-related jobs that have a strong projected employment outlook or are considered an up-and-coming field with opportunity for growth. Psychologists are involved in research on perception, cognition, attention, emotion, intelligence, subjective experiences, motivation, brain functioning, and personality. Psychologists' interests extend to interpersonal relationships, psychological resilience, family resilience, and other areas within social psychology. They also consider the unconscious mind.[4] Research psychologists employ empirical methods to infer causal and correlational relationships between psychosocial variables. Some, but not all, clinical and counseling psychologists rely on symbolic interpretation. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking

Historic day for Psychologists today. The updated professional competencies for psychology have been published by Ahpra today and come into effect on 1 December 2025. Competency 7 is such a significant shift: "Psychologists should understand the complex circumstances that influence the health and mental health of people coming from diverse groups, and how these factors impact people’s experience of healthcare and health systems." "It is the practitioner’s responsibility to understand the history and preconceptions of psychology and the impact of this on the effectiveness of psychological practice on diverse groups, to recognise their own personal background and how to interact with people who are different from the practitioner, and to exercise reflexivity and critical evaluation of their own practice." And the reflective and self care focus of Competency 3 is long overdue as well. https://lnkd.in/gMmWgbW5

On the 10th week which is our last week PPD1041 class, there was a project held which is “gotong-royong” project or known as communal work project. All of the students in this class must participate in this project. The purpose of this project was done is to allowed students known how to contribute with each other and allowed them to have teamwork. This communal work project was done on the 27th of December 2023, which is on Wednesday, around 2.00 p.m.. Before starting doing this project, all students must gather at the classroom around 1.30 p.m. to scan their attendance while lecturer give us a short brief about the project. After that, all students can go to the place that their project was held which is the counselling lab room and psychology lab room. Because there are 8 groups, 4 groups were required to clean the counselling lab room at G level while the other 4 groups were required to clean up the psychology lab room and counselling lab room at the 2nd level. Students were advice to bring some necessity items such as fabric, broom, dustbin, vacuum, rubbish bag and dipper. It is to clean up all the mess in the counselling lab room and psychology lab room. Other items such as pillow, quotes wooden wall photo, carpet, flower pot was bought from our classmates using the money that the school had set the budget given. These items were bought to make the counselling lab room and the psychology lab room become more cheerful and comfortable to use. I found out the advantages or the strength of doing this project is that there is teamwork among all students. We could see that students who came from different background can work as a team. In this situation, I could see that all of the groups can give a great commitment and listen well to their leaders’ words. The weakness from this project is that there is not enough time to clean up all the room especially the counselling lab room and the psychology lab room at the 2nd level. This is because the space of the room was too big and the time to do this project was not enough. For opportunity, I get to see that all students can get along well with each other. It shows each of the students’ potential in doing a work that is out of their comfort zone. For threat, some the room were left and not been use for a long time. So, all students need to be careful when cleaning up the room because there might be infection occur that could affect students’ health especially from the wet area or the area that had a lot of dusk. Overall, this project could show students responsibilities and credibility in handling some project.
