57 yo male who presented with cervical myelopathy and right sided C5 radiculopathy. Normal strength. I performed cervical laminoplasty for resection of this tumor utilizing direct neurostimulation which allowed me to identify the motor and sensory root. Sensory root origin was confirmed, and root resected. Patient went home postoperative day 1. I choose laminoplasty, as I believe it decreases the rates of CSF leak and diminishes chances of kyphosis. 6-months postop MRI demonstrating no evidence of tumor growth and preserved alignment. Patient remains neuro intact. I find it surprising that after substantial manipulation of the C5 motor root this patient did not develop a C5 palsy or C5 nerve root related weakness which again makes me wonder why C5 palsy really happens after PCDFs. #neurospine #oregonneurosurgery #spinesection #AANS #PeaceHealth #Spinehealth #cervicalschwannoma

Factor XIII (FXIII) Deficiency is an ultra-rare bleeding disorder (conditions that shares an inability or decreased ability to form a stable blood clot). The normal level of FXIII in the blood ranges from 50-220%. A level less than 50% of the normal amount would give a diagnosis of FXIII Deficiency. Middle Eastern nations with regions of high incidences of consanguinity have a higher rate of rare bleeding disorders (RBD), especially Factor XIII. Some people can acquire FXIII Deficiency, although this is rare, and the condition is largely inherited. An early sign that a child may be affected with a severe FXIII Deficiency is significant bleeding from their belly button. Other symptoms include easy bruising, gum and mouth bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, nose bleeds, bleeding into joints and muscles, and prolonged bleeding after surgery. It is recommended to work with a hematologist (blood doctor), who is experienced in the treatment of FXIII Deficiency.
