Why do you work in senior care and service? What keeps you going through challenging times like the pandemic and economic uncertainty? There is something to be said about finding meaning and connection every day that makes this 'work' unique 💚 #parkplacepeople #seniorliving #connection #seniorcare
People often ask what I enjoy most about working in the seniors living sector. I always explain it as walking into a workplace that feels like an extension of family, where the wisdom and warmth of grandparents surround you daily. It's an experience that's hard not to love. Building meaningful relationships with insightful seniors has been at the heart of my journey with Park Place Seniors Living, Inc. My path here wasn't a straight line; it meandered through various roles at The Wellington Retirement Residence, in Medicine Hat. Starting from food service, then transitioning to support services during the pandemic, followed by maintenance and reception leading me along side my education to my role in the Marketing and Communications department at Head Office. Each step added a layer of understanding and empathy, shaping me both personally and professionally. Helping families plan and navigate their futures, guiding them through the move to our communities, has been a highlight. Alongside that, being able to use my creativity through social media, assisting with ad campaigns, and collaborating with an exceptional team, whether on-site or remotely, has been incredibly fulfilling. These experiences have not only defined my career but have also given me a profound sense of purpose in serving our residents and their families. 💚#ParkPlacePeople

At BENS Consulting, we're excited to welcome two new additions 👶👶 to our team this October and November as two of our colleagues expand their families. This isn’t the first time we've celebrated such wonderful news, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. As a manager, “family-friendly” means several things to me: ✔ Expecting a child should be a joyous occasion, not something to fear sharing with your boss. We celebrate this wonderful news. 🎉 ✔ Job security should never be a worry. Your position will be here waiting for you. 🏢 ✔ Not only will you keep your job, but you'll also receive a pay raise upon your return. 💰 ✔ We understand that babies and toddlers often need special attention and care in case of sickness. It's inevitable. That is why we offer more flexibility for parents. 🤒👶 I've always looked to provide the best conditions for work—the same conditions I would want as an employee to feel respected and valued. 🤝 Having kids myself, I’ve experienced the challenge of balancing work and family. I’ve often chosen to stay with my kids instead of traveling for business, even if it meant missing some opportunities. And sometimes, I also take my family with me when I travel for business. 👨👧👦 Work can wait, but kids grow up fast. You have only a limited number of years to spend with them, and those moments are priceless. ⏳💖

What if a single mother in Cleveland could go to her job at a grocery store making a livable wage with benefits, finish her shift, and go home to a house that she owns where she's able to support her family comfortably? This is a question that was posed by Founder & CEO of Universal Basic Employment & Opportunity Devin H. Cotten during yesterday's The City Club of Cleveland Playhouse Square series surrounding the topics of universal basic employment possibly becoming a reality in Cleveland. Joined by Ward 7 Councilwoman Stephanie Howse-Jones and United Way of Greater Cleveland's Chief Development & Investment Officer Ken Surratt, Devin and company explained why this reality isn't too far off. ⬇️ ➡️ Cleveland can soon become the first city in America to launch universal basic employment where select employees can make a standard $50,000 a year in a number of industries. (Not to be confused with universal basic income where most individuals would receive $500-$1,000 per month devoid of work-related activities.) ➡️ These three will be instrumental in launching the pilot program that will see roughly 100 Clevelanders receive the $50,000 yearly salary for a few years. ➡️ How can we know it works? Devin said to keep an eye on the qualitative properties surrounding these individuals: neighborhood development, healthy work retention, an increase in local economical participation, etc. Councilwoman Howse said if the pilot doesn't work then "at least we had the courage to try." The success of a program like this could literally change the paradigm of work culture not only in the Greater Cleveland region, but also for a number of communities across the country. Major kudos to these three for bringing this to reality and for forcing us to rethink how we can positively change our communities and the people within them. --- Great to meet you, Nicki Price, CVA, CNP, Lamia Jefferson, Noel Salwan, and Eric Johnson. Sarah (Corr) Franks and Madeline Frantz -- I think we're officially attached at the hips. 😂 #CityClub #Cleveland #Networking

When I first joined the jobs market, 20 years ago, it wasn't the done thing to talk openly about the struggles of balancing childcare and career. It was very much still "work like you don't have children, and parent like you have no other job". And although I didn't have children back then, I very quickly took on board the unspoken lores of the workplace that translated to: become a mother, become a burden to your boss. So this year, when the annual "how the hell am I going to cover 6 weeks of school summer holidays with my remaining annual leave and no extended family nearby to help" panic set in, I had a hard time accepting the solution I was offered here at Investing Insiders UK. You see, the hardwiring that was done in those early days of my career, has proved very tricky to undo. And that's the danger of simply paying lip service to flexible working approaches. Your employees soon learn not to believe you mean it. That underneath those award-winning, flagship flexible working policies are the same, old, unspoken rules that have always been there: leave on time and you won't get promoted; ask to work from home because your child is sick and don't bother coming back. So, the solution offered by Antonia Medlicott - that as working parents we all switch to a 3-day working week during the school summer holidays - required some deep rewiring of my brain. Skepticism takes hold and doesn't stand down without a fight. But I knew this offer was genuine because I know the team at Investing Insiders are genuine people. And that our mission is to help everyone achieve a better worklife balance with better financial wellbeing. So why wouldn't we apply that to our own team? * The photo is of me and my daughter rocking a festival last week... on a Friday.

If you're looking to hire a head of marketing, even if you're an itty bitty little startup, the base salary should be well over $150k. These job descriptions are not it. Equity doesn't put food on the table or cover the cost of childcare. It's monopoly money. Unlimited PTO is just a scam for not having to pay people out for unpaid vacation days. Plus, no one can ever take vacation because you expect everyone to work three jobs in one. Everyone offers healthcare (or should) at this point. And your 100% premiums are not fooling anyone once we see the $10k deductible. Pay people what they deserve. #marketingjobs #salary #marketing
