It's World Youth Skills Day, and I've been thinking about something that may well become a lynchpin for India’s economy, business skills for our young entrepreneurs, especially those marginalised by society. You know, at Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST), we've seen some incredible transformations when young people learn entrepreneurship skills. However, our recent survey reveals a stark digital divide. Only 21% of SC/ST entrepreneurs have a digital presence, compared to 43% overall. This gap in digital readiness is alarming in today's business landscape. We must prioritise accessible, inclusive skill-building programs that equip all young entrepreneurs with digital marketing, financial management, and regulatory knowledge. By bridging this skills gap, we can unleash the full potential of India's diverse talent pool. Last Saturday with #AgrahConsultants We talked about the Challenges faced by SME and Entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka. SMEs and entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka encounter a myriad of challenges as they navigate the business landscape. Limited access to financing, bureaucratic hurdles, and a complex regulatory environment often hinder their growth. Additionally, the lack of robust infrastructure and technology adoption poses obstacles to competitiveness. Despite these challenges, the entrepreneurial spirit persists, with initiatives focusing on capacity building and policy advocacy aiming to alleviate these impediments and foster a more conducive environment for small and medium-sized enterprises in Sri Lanka. #challenges #sme #entrepreneurship #srilanka

I recently enrolled in the online course "Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies" on edX, which is conducted by Professor Tarun Khanna. The primary objective of this course was to challenge learners to think creatively about entrepreneurial interventions in emerging economies. Emerging economies face a different set of challenges than advanced economies, with a lack of developed infrastructure and institutions hindering efficient business operations. These absences of market intermediaries are referred to as institutional voids in the course. I have been working on Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies for more than ten years, focusing on youth/students to encourage them to engage in entrepreneurship. My team and I have collaborated with many emerging entrepreneurs through Uddog o Uddokta. As a youth entrepreneur and working with other emerging entrepreneurs, I have encountered numerous challenges, and unfortunately, many young entrepreneurs face failure. There is much to be done in developing countries to establish sustainable entrepreneurship. From this course, I have gained valuable insights that may assist me in the future, and the case studies have particularly helped me think in different ways. Recently, we started working on micro healthcare entrepreneurship in Bangladesh to support the community for universal health coverage by establishing community-based entrepreneurs.
