The RECON study group, led by Dr. Jonathan Isaacs and Dr. Scott Levin has completed their multicenter, prospective randomized study, a rare occurrence in the field of nerve repair. This study compared Avance Nerve Graft and bovine collagen conduits for repair of digital nerve injuries. Their first report on sensory outcomes was recently published in Journal of Hand Surgery. They found that a significantly larger percentage of Avance Nerve Graft repairs resulted in normal (<6 mm static two-point discrimination) digital nerve sensory function than the conduit repairs. Kevin: Tomorrow undergoing R reverse full shoulder replacement. Severe impact of r shoulder on road surfaces in each fall. Two prior surgical repairs of both shoulder rotator cuffs and a failed surgery to re-attach tendon in Nov made shoulder replacement only real option. Nonetheless, still needing a solution for r peroneal nerve dysfunction to enable me to once again compete in marathons. Can you connect me w axogen resource to discuss potential benefit to stimulate nerve restoration? Thanks, Bill Haffey 858-750-0674

3moKevin: I have a dysfunctional (2 consecutive EMG Nerve conduction studies separated by three months) that has caused foot drop, deenervation of ankle and foot , and precipitated two falls, once in training for Sept 2023 Sydney marathon ( which I ultimately completed after 17 sessions of manual therapy - 30 minutes followed by 30 minutes of focused movement of the foot using Pilates apparati) and then a second fall at mile 14 in the Chicago marathon which I finished while bleeding from a scalp wound inside of my r eyebrow in quality time finishing 8th in the WANDA World Major Marathons Age Group (75-79) championships. I have not run since Oct 8. I underwent reverse tendon re-attachment in my r shoulder on 30 Nov. only exercise permitted was walking. By early January I was walking 20.5 miles in under 6 hours. A week later during a 15 mile walk, at mile 13 my r foot lost all dorsiflection and exhibited prfound gait disturbance. I have not walked any further than 1.5 miles since. Another 16 sessions of physio in Australia in Feb-March. Restored gross r foot control followed by additional manual therapy after return from Sydney and two hours a day x 4 days of gym workouts. Space limit. Need help. Bill Haffey
