Just like Hannah from the Bible, who fervently prayed for a child and eventually gave birth to Samuel, mothers often embody resilience and devotion. From the very beginning, the divine command to Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:27-28 to "be fruitful and multiply" illustrates the sacredness and importance of motherhood in human existence. For guidance and inspiration, women can turn to Proverbs chapter 31, which extols the virtues of a capable and industrious woman, highlighting the multifaceted roles mothers play in managing households and even businesses. In closing, it's crucial for husbands to support and empower their wives in fulfilling their potential, recognizing and valuing their contributions not only within the family but also in broader societal spheres.

A huge thank you to Ruth Penfold-Brown for having me at Bloom this week.🌟 I'm so passionate about delivering impactful talks, especially to remarkable women who are driving change within their organisations 👏 As working parents, the journey can be both rewarding and challenging. That's why it's crucial to foster environments that support us in being set up for success at home and in our careers. A recent study revealed that a staggering ‼️80% of working parents are on the brink of burnout – and I was definitely part of this statistic for a number of years after having my son (that story is for another day) This has to change! 👇 During my talk, we delved into practical strategies and eye-opening insights aimed at empowering both working parents and those who support us. Here's a snapshot of what we covered: 1️⃣ Redefining Parental Leave: Let's acknowledge parental leave as the transformative period it truly is. The transition back to work post-baby 👶🏻 is multifaceted and often overwhelming. Recognising and supporting this journey is vital for both parents and their support networks. 2️⃣ Embracing Matrescence and Patrescence: Just as adolescence marks a significant transition to adulthood, matrescence and patrescence signify the transformative journey into parenthood. Understanding these processes helps us navigate the challenges and changes with greater empathy and awareness. 👉 If we spoke about these terms more in our society, it's been proven to reduce post-natal depression in both mothers and fathers. 3️⃣ Work-Life Balance is a myth: Instead of striving for an impossible work-life balance, let's focus on setting healthy boundaries. Honoring these boundaries 🙏🏼such as respecting commitments like the nursery run, is essential for fostering a supportive workplace culture. 4️⃣ Energy Management for Resilience 💥 Self-care tends to take two things that working parents have in short supply - high disposable income and time 😳 So we need to think about this differently by managing our energy effectively through prioritising activities that recharge us and letting go of energy-draining tasks. This is how we can build resilience and thrive in both our parenting and our careers. As we strive to champion inclusivity and support for working parents, it's crucial to recognise that parenting was never meant to be done in isolation. In today's world, with its unique challenges, we need infrastructures, unwavering support, and strong allies at work to navigate the complexities of modern parenting successfully. 💼👨👩👧👦 #WorkingParents #SupportiveWorkplaces #empowerment

Extended Women's Day post (Warning: has the potential to ruffle some feathers) Now that all the women's day lunches and dinners and other tokenism is over.. When the dust settles and everyone goes back to doing things the same way There is one thing I want to tell all the women If you want change.. stop bullshitting yourself and ask yourself these questions: - Do you want a leader who garlands rapists? - Would you want a husband who would abandon you when you are pregnant coz 'someone' made a snide remark? Or one who would make you walk through fire coz he has trust issues? - Would you want to continue following rituals that treats women like second class citizens and only ask women for all the sacrifices? Then stop worshipping and giving into those narratives, wake up and start questioning them, think and choose wisely. For if we continue to believe in the same stories, we will keep living the same ones. Its time we realize our power and change the narratives for ourselves and our daughters. We will have to create the world we want to live in and it starts with us changing narratives. P.S: This post is only to awaken and nudge you to critically evaluate narratives without giving into the jingoism. To believe or not believe after that, is your choice. Even if you choose to believe in the same narratives, do it for your own reasons after the agni pariksha.
