😩 Where did the time go? It seems like only yesterday our three interns turned up looking all shiny and new, and now it is almost time to say goodbye! As a tiny moronic minority strove to promote racial division and terror across the UK, I was proud to watch our interns get their heads down and get stuck into some meaningful work and learn new skills at Mintel. Pictured here with Liz Wescott, MD Mintel EMEA and myself, our interns have represented themselves very well this summer. 📆 It’s almost that time again! Creating Mintel’s Diversity Summer Internship Programme is one of my career highlights, and running it continues to be one of the high points of my year. ✊🏾Created in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, the aim was to do something to address the difficulties faced by many young Black people in accessing professional careers, and ultimately to improve diversity at a grass roots level. 3️⃣ 2024 marks three years of delivering PAID internships for Black students across a range of business functions such as Marketing, Research and Accounting, and working with our charity partner, London based Voyage Youth who do fantastic work upskilling and empowering young people. 🙁 Let's get uncomfortable for a minute. Usually I talk about food and drink, which is LOVELY, but today, I want to talk to you about the 'Angry Black Woman' trope. A racial stereotype that labels Black women as aggressive, loud, negative and irrational. A highly effective tool in silencing Black women into accepting inequality and 'going along to get along', preventing their career progression and ascension. I was interviewed this month by Mintel Women In Business Employee Resource Group MintELLE, as part of a series of candid conversations with varius women leaders. I touched on a range of subjects, from imposter syndrome to the importance of self care, but it is THIS snippet I wanted to share. Thank you Mintel, for creating safe spaces for these conversations. Instead of labelling Black women as angry, businesses need to address the things that they would have every right to be angry about in the workplace, like: 👉🏾Unequal pay 👉🏾Promotional disparities 👉🏾Microaggressions Somewhere in my LinkedIn network, there is a Black woman making herself smaller and less visible in a desperate attempt not to upset the status quo. 🚀 The air fryer revolution finally hits the UK ready meal aisle! The MJ's Diner air fryer ready meal range has launched into Farmfoods, Poundland & Dealz and other independent retailers, with talks of potential launches into Home Bargains, Morrisons and Sainsbury's. MJ's Diner claim this frozen range is a UK first. Ready meals have been slow to respond to the air fryer revolution. I'm not surprised innovation is being driven by the more affordable end of the market, targeting consumers on a tight budget seeking quick meal solutions.
