🏢 Historic American Skyscrapers: 30 Rockefeller Plaza 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the crown jewel of the Rockefeller Center complex, is a masterpiece of Art Deco design that epitomizes New York City’s architectural evolution during the early 20th century. Completed in 1933 and originally known as the RCA Building, this iconic skyscraper was designed by architect Raymond Hood and his team.  Standing at 850 feet tall with 70 stories, it was one of the tallest buildings in the world at the time and remains a central feature of Manhattan's skyline. Its sleek lines and geometric detailing reflect the grandeur and optimism of the Art Deco era. 30 Rockefeller Plaza is celebrated not only for its architectural beauty but also for its innovative construction techniques.  It was among the first buildings to incorporate setback style architecture, which allowed for sunlight to reach the streets below and offered panoramic views from its famed Top of the Rock observation deck. The building's construction also featured pioneering use of air rights, setting a precedent for future urban development projects. Throughout its history, 30 Rockefeller Plaza has undergone significant renovations and adaptations, including a recent modernization that preserved its historical charm while enhancing its functionality. Today, it remains a bustling hub of activity, home to NBC Studios, the iconic Rainbow Room, and the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. 📍21 – 20 44th Drive, Long Island, New York 🏢 8 Floors 🏅 Unitized curtain wall system with lots of transitions and interfaces with projecting part of the facade. Different corner conditions and modules of units. The building skin is composed of full-height AZA INT curtain walls that wrap a cascade of “jewel boxstyle” projections, which required the design, engineering, and fabrication of 35,900 Sq Ft of curtain wall. The projecting units – similar to contemporary bow windows – are the design’s peculiarity: the volumes gain movement, all the while remaining a clean, elegant intervention. The operable are designed to make their presence on the surface of the facade unnoticeable. Stay tuned to discover all of our projects!

We're delighted to have contributed to the transformation of a 1930s railway terminus into their flagship New York headquarters, in collaboration with Turner Construction Company, Structure Tone, Gensler, and COOKFOX Architects. NASA is Prototyping Fungal Mycelium Bricks to “Grow Homes” on the Moon and Mars Scientists at NASA Ames Research Center are developing “mycotecture,” using fungal mycelium to build habitats on the Moon and Mars. Mycelium, found in mushrooms and synthetic leather, offers lightweight, biodegradable, insulated, and fire-retardant properties. NASA's concept involves creating bricks from mycelium, which, when combined with cyanobacteria, can convert water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and mycelium. This process would allow astronauts to grow functional habitats by adding water to the bricks upon arrival. The proposed mycotecture structures include a three-layered dome: an outer layer of frozen water for radiation protection, a middle layer of cyanobacteria for oxygen production, and an inner mycelium layer for living space. New York City Council passes legislation to prevent building collapses. The New York City Council has approved new legislation designed to prevent building collapses through a proactive inspection program. This bill requires buildings over six stories to undergo inspections and repairs every five years. Under the new bill, the Department of Buildings (DOB) will implement a risk-based inspection program using predictive models to identify hazardous buildings. The models will consider factors such as building data, violation history, and previous facade inspection reports. The bill, supported by Mayor Eric Adams, was sponsored by 11 city councilors, including Crystal Hudson, Christopher Marte, and Tiffany Cabán. It responds to recent building collapses in East Harlem, Little Italy, and the Bronx, notably the 2023 collapse at 1915 Billingsley Terrace in Morris Heights. With this legislation, building owners identified as high risk will receive a notice of violation and must submit a corrective action plan within 10 days. They will be barred from receiving non-emergency permits until all facade defects are corrected. Failure to implement corrective actions within 30 days will result in escalating penalties. Councilor Pierina Sanchez, whose jurisdiction includes 1915 Billingsley Terrace, emphasized the bill’s importance: "This is about elevating the standard of how we’re taking care of our buildings. Designed to reflect the identity and values of the banking institution it houses, Cal Bank spans 12 floors, totaling 12,200 square meters of usable space. The building's façade was created through collaboration with K3 Alu Products and is characterized by its strong visual impact. The design focuses on the emblematic representation of the bank's emblem, which emerges powerfully through the clever use of color contrasts and the shadow effect produced by the aluminum composite panels.
