💡 While fusion power often sparks enthusiasm, its underlying mechanisms are not widely understood. We went deep on fusion this past month to help inform thesis development for one of Powerhouse Innovation’s corporate venture clients, engaging numerous stakeholders in the space to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the physics that underpin this technology. 🗺️ To this end, we developed a market landscape to help define the various technology subdomains within nuclear fusion, from magnetic confinement methods like stellarators and tokamaks to inertial confinement techniques involving lasers, ions, and projectiles, and including hybrid approaches such as MagLIF. Additionally, our landscape explores nontraditional concepts such as aneutronic fusion (e.g., Helion), muon-catalyzed fusion (e.g., Acceleron Fusion, Inc.), and cold fusion.
