The most recent algorithmic enhancements of the COSMO solvation model are presented and the implementation in the TURBOMOLE program package is described. Three demonstrative applications covering homogeneous catalysis, tautomeric equilibria, and binary phase diagrams show the efficiency and general applicability of the approach. Especially when combined with the COSMO-RS extension the method very reliably predicts thermodynamic properties of liquid mixtures. Whole cell biocatalysis has several advantages over using purified or immobilised enzymes, but it does have some drawbacks in terms of mass transfer limitations. In the article, "*Recent advances in whole cell biocatalysis techniques bridging from investigative to industrial scales," Jochen Waldmeister and Dörthe Rother suggest approaches to overcome limitations in the application of whole cell biocatalysts with novel reactor setups. Furthermore, they conclude that reliable scalability from the investigatory scale to large-scale manufacturing is desired, particularly for difficult, unconventional biphasic or viscous media.
