“There has been no manganese ore mining in the United States since the 1970s, and the US is now 100% reliant on foreign sources for manganese. The Hermosa project can help fill that void,” explains our President Pat Risner in Global Business Reports (GBR)’s new 2024-25 Western USA Mining report. This year’s report also includes a feature of Hermosa , highlighting South32’s recent decision to invest $2.16 billion into the project, as well as it’s unique position as the first mining project to participate in the federal government’s FAST-41 program, aimed at increasing transparency and collaboration in the permitting process for projects deemed critical to national security. 1wYou may have some serious challenges to produce affordable, low cost Manganese products from this mixed bag. The 9% Mn contents may put you in the same ball park as EuroManganese's OPEX numbers, (which is the highest in the whole world) unless you work a miracle with a multi-element extraction- and hydro-met processing flowsheet. I sincerely hope the battery materials market changes dramatically, for your sake, because the current outlook is an over-supply and depressed market prices for HPMSM until the mid-30's, unless LMFP demand reaches 25%+ global market share. NMC demand will not carry you, especially considering the current momentum in loss of market share to alternative battery chemistries, i.e. LFP + sodium.
