The Arc 7 #LNG carrier Nikolay Basov is out on its first sea trials off the coast of South Korea, as evidenced by ship-tracking data (see attached screenshot from marinetraffic.com). The Nikolay Basov is the second of three Arc 7 ice-class #LNGCs built by #HanwhaOcean (formerly #DSME) for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (#MOL) for service on the #NOVATEK-led #ArcticLNG2 Project. It is also the fifth of six Arc 7s in total being built at the South Korea shipyard for #ALNG2. The other three were part of a now cancelled order from Russian state shipping group #Sovcomflot but the vessels were completed anyway by #HanwhaOcean at its own cost, with a view to selling them to a new operator. Speculation has been rife recently as to the fate of these six specialized #LNGCs, with many suggesting that they will not see service with #ALNG2 (given #sanctions targeting the project and Russia's #LNG sector in general).

A very significant chart. "Taking into account that the average vessel size on this trade currently stands at 14,150 teu, some 509,400 extra slots are still needed. This represents 9.6% of the total capacity required to guarantee weekly sailings for all alliance loops. According to Alphaliner, 376 ships are currently needed for 25 loops, compared to 321 for 27 loops one year ago. The extra ships are needed as 24 loops are being re-routed via the Cape of Good Hope due to the Red Sea crisis."

Our goal here is to help ensure a better experience for our client's team passing through the Straits of Malacca and Singapore. With the current challenges face by their team on board, the long journey and tireless nights, they need all the support they can get, and we are here to render that support so that when their team continue with their voyage, they are ready and recharged. Obtaining a Marine Advisor during a passage through the straits may present a challenge to some, yet many rely on this time for their crew to take ease so that they can concentrate better for their upcoming voyage. As such, it is not a luxury but rather a necessity, and our clients' most important concern is the safety of their crew. Having a local Marine Advisor (straits pilot) is also vital as our pilots are very familiar with the waters and the tidal challenges, faced by our client. We focus on safety, and we shall prioritise this throughout this journey. #MovingEnergy #MISC #MarineAdvisor #MaritimeSafety
Pilots play a pivotal role in global shipping, guiding vessels safely through congested waterways like the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS). With expert local knowledge, precise navigation skills, and extensive training, their role is vital in protecting the people, environment, asset, and reputation of all stakeholders. Recognising the importance of these waterways, International Maritime Organization ( IMO Circ SN.1/Circ.338 and SN/Circ.198, annex 1) has recommended that all deep draft vessel and VLCC navigating within the Traffic Separation Scheme in SOMS to use pilotage service (Marine Advisors). At MISC Marine, our certified, trained, and experienced Marine Advisors, together with our facility on shore, are uniquely equipped to provide the highest standards of professional pilotage while putting safety at the forefront of all operations. Eastbound transit of Singapore Strait vs. Westbound is a relaxing journey 🙃, with no outbound ships from Singapore Port and no crossing TSS vessels heading to PBG. While still demanding, it's significantly less stressful, especially with daylight conditions and safe speed. #crew #navigate #tanker #safe #shipping #energy

I think this concept can have a high potential for the future. Complacency for long-term passages in middle of an Ocean can really be tiring: 8hrs a day looking ahead for not-a-single target is really decreasing the awareness. Many times I see myself and hear from colleagues, that OOWs do look ahead and radar screen only when BNWAS gets activated. Everyone has their paperwork, which needs to be done. And there's nothing bad in the middle of an Ocean: good quality radars and wide implementation of AIS made its work. However, problems starts in traffic areas (e.g. approaches, straits or 'standard passages': for example the route between Sri Lanka and Malacca Strait - almost all ships do steaming in same latitudes. Another issue is low-responsible targets - high-speed crafts or, particularly, fishing boats. This is the main concern: how to determine them and then, because of ARPA limitations, how to track them. Small targets may be impossible to track in bad (not speaking about heavy) weathers and high seas. Maybe Rachael O'Connor can have some words on this, based on their developments. I consider targets - their identification and tracking - are the highest concern for safe navigation and implementation of this project.
Join our new joint industry project (JIP) Alert: SAFELY LEAVING THE NAVIGATION BRIDGE UNATTENDED FOR PERIODS OF TIME WHILE AT SEA Within this project we will determine the conditions for when it is safe to periodically leave navigation spaces unattended and at the same time examine whether that improves the safety, working and living situation for the crew on board. We are starting this JIP together with shipping companies, other maritime companies and institutes. New participants are very welcome to join. A consultation session will be organised on 📅 14 March 2024. Want to join? Contact Captain Arjen V. Damaged Navigation and Communication Equipment, But Still Sailing? That's Bold! 😅⚓ Sailing with broken navigation and communication equipment is like driving on a highway with your eyes closed. Anyone who’s ever gotten lost in a huge mall without a map knows how important clear directions are. Now, imagine that happening in the middle of the ocean—no road signs, just endless water. 🌊 When ship navigation and communication tools fail, safety risks skyrocket. The ship could get lost, enter dangerous waters, or even collide with other vessels. And, without communication, coordinating with ports or other ships becomes nearly impossible. What starts as a minor issue can quickly turn into a nightmare. 😬 Plus, sailing without functioning equipment is like playing hide-and-seek with disaster. The cost of repairs and delays will be far higher than simply performing routine maintenance. So why take a huge risk just to save a little? 🤔 Just like sailing without a map and compass, going without navigation and communication tools is an invitation to trouble. Luckily, PT Aneka Berkah Cipta Daya (ABCD) is here to help! We offer procurement, installation, maintenance, and repair services for ship navigation and communication equipment to keep your vessel safe and on course. 🌍🔧 Don’t wait until your ship "gets lost" at sea—visit https://lnkd.in/gDwu2wK5 or contact us at market@abcd.co.id and 082131664147 to ensure your equipment stays in top condition! 😉 #ShipNavigation #ShipCommunication #ShipMaintenance #PTABCD #MaritimeSafety
