It looks like 2024 is the year of the humanoid robot and there’s an “arms race” among the manufacturers to see who will bring this technology to the workplace first. Figure, one of those companies, has gotten a sizable investment in the form of $675 million from Jeff Bezon, OpenAI and others. It now has a valuation of $2.6 billion. OpenAI aims to make the robots’ functions even more complex by enabling them to process and reason from language. The Figure robot, at this point, is able to perform numerous jobs, including moving crates and making coffee, among other tasks. As we continue to see labor shortages across numerous industries, the concept of the humanoid robot is feeling more and more needed.
