It was a fantastic evening last night with Julie Hodges talking about her new book 📕 ‘People-centric Organisational Change’ and how engaging people, particularly front line staff, in business change is crucial. We discussed how by involving people in the change process from the outset and by shifting power and agency from employer to employee, a business is twice as likely to achieve its goals and importantly able to sustain its benefit. We talked about the two key traps of a failed engagement: (1) the engagement being framed as a “communications issue” and “messaged” top down and (2) engagement only occurring after executives have finalised their plans in isolation. An excellent event and I wish Julie Hodges continued success with her book. Thank you for asking me to participate in this event. Great job to my friend and colleague Zuhair Imran for his insights and thank you to Katie Taylor and Stephanie Osborne for managing the event and keeping us all on track and on time. Thank you to both the Durham University Business School present students and Durham University Alumni that attended. Today I'm glad to see my recent work on the nature of the evaluation discipline published in the new edited book at SAGE, "Core Concepts in Evaluation: Classic Writings and Contemporary Commentary". A big thank you to the team of editors who supported the authors with professionalism and wisdom. In this chapter I discuss the need to develop substantive theories of program evaluation around its subject matter, i.e., the value determination of social interventions, as opposed to a discipline that limits itself to theories of evaluation practice. Christmas is coming soon, so go get it here: https://lnkd.in/gSMcXrph There is no better way to show how much you care to your loved ones. Arbour, G. (2024). Lack of Discipline: Answering Scriven’s Call for Value in (Program) Evaluation. In L. A. Wingate, A. S. Boyce, L. Wilson Becho and K. N. Robertson (Eds), Core Concepts in Evaluation: Classic Writings and Contemporary Commentary (pp. 55-65). SAGE Publications.
It’s so exciting to see our vision for this book come to life! Thank you to all the wonderful authors and everyone who supported the work behind the scenes! The book is a bridge between tradition and innovation in evaluation. It combines classic writings from the pioneers who shaped the field with new essays on the same concepts by members of the next generation of evaluation thought leaders. We wanted the book to honor evaluation's past while introducing fresh, forward-thinking ideas. I think we did it! Learn more at https://lnkd.in/daRuv25u
