🏢🚊Why is it so hard to get extensive public transit and affordable housing built in Los Angeles? The answer may surprise you. A major contributor: “Community groups” of “activists”—that are actually 7-figure funded by wealthy residents and represented by powerful lawyers—tie up projects that they don’t want in their neighborhoods (or, in the case of the subway, bringing riff-raff to their neighborhoods) in litigation. Outdated zoning and CEQA review allow for this. It’s why a ballot measure to build affordable housing that was overwhelmingly approved by voters essentially died on the vine. Many Angelenos don’t know this and equate “community groups” with the voice of the people, allowing these groups to rally others to their #NIMBY (not in my backyard) cause, even if deep down they support greater housing access. From the article: “To stop a subway, or at least significantly stall it, making it less desirable to decision-makers, Rosen is spearheading a threatened lawsuit through a community group, Keep Bel-Air Beautiful.” A more fitting name: Make Bel-Air Great Again. #housingcrisis #publictransport #ceqa
And you thought the years of grandstanding against the Purple Line crossing Beverly Hills were intense? Meet the Bel Air gang preferring the fumes of the 405 bumper-to-bumper daily grind.

Now we know. -- William Phelps Eno William Phelps Eno, often referred to as the "Father of Traffic Safety," was an American businessman and innovator who played a pivotal role in the development of early road safety and traffic control measures. Despite never learning to drive a car himself, Eno's contributions have had a lasting impact on the way we navigate our streets and cities. Here are some highlights of his life and work: - Born: June 3, 1858, in New York City. - Education: Attended Hopkins Grammar School, Williston Academy, and graduated from Yale University in 1882. - Innovations: Credited with creating the stop sign, pedestrian crosswalk, traffic circle, one-way street, taxi stand, and pedestrian safety islands. - Traffic Plans: Developed the first traffic plans for major cities like New York, London, and Paris. His rotary traffic plan was implemented at Columbus Circle in New York City in 1905, at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris in 1907, and at Piccadilly Circus in London in 1926. - Publications: Wrote the first-ever manual of police traffic regulations and authored "Rules of the Road" in 1903. - Legacy: Founded the Eno Transportation Foundation in 1921 to promote improvements in transportation and traffic management. Eno passed away on December 3, 1945, in Norwalk, Connecticut, but his legacy continues to influence modern transportation and traffic systems around the world. #inspirationalquote #motivationalquote #wisdomquotes #lifelesson

Promoter and Designer of State-of-the-Art Transportation Systems that Maximize Passenger Throughput while Stimulating Economies and Preserving the Environment
What do you think about a Cal-Neva High-Speed Rail Conference at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada? The Conference would focus on High-Speed Rail developments in California and Nevada with special emphasis on Brightline West (Los Angeles to Las Vegas) and California (San Francisco to Los Angeles). It would also be interesting to have a discussion on the feasibility of connecting Reno and Las Vegas via High-Speed Rail. The distance is around 460 miles, and I had to pleasure of driving it once. It's primarily two lane roads. It's comparable to the distance between Sacramento and San Clemente California, but it's by no means a journey on Interstate Freeways. There is the Interstate 11 planned between Las Vegas and Fallon, intersecting Interstate 80 just north of Fallon.

In #Indianapolis, we have a cherished holiday tradition called the Sullivan Express Christmas Train. It is truly an immersive experience: a motorized train takes customers to the North Pole for a personal visit with Santa, with stops along the way to see talking polar bears, singing raccoons, talking trees, and a light show. You hardly notice that you're in a parking lot and in (probably??) storage units. It's one of a kind and it is perennially sold out. Our three kids eagerly anticipate it each year and it's become a favorite tradition. We took the kids yesterday and something unexpected caught my eye. After we met with Santa, the owner of this business drove our train back to the imaginary main station from the fictitious North Pole. Here's why this seemingly unassuming motion spoke volumes: 🪪 Despite likely managing a sizable team, he opts in to drive on occasion, as he told us with a wink, "to keep his licensure up." 🚂 He blended in seamlessly with the other conductors. From his demeanor to his clothes to his headset, one wouldn't know he owns the place. 🤝 The camaraderie between he and his staff was remarkable. As we disembarked, the banter was flying, the smiles were showing, and he truly created an atmosphere where his team was having FUN. As an extension, his customers were having fun too. Seek leaders who willingly jump into the fray, maintain humility, build culture, and act as a role model for the team. As leaders, we should be doing this because it's the right thing to do….not because Santa is watching. 😉 #neverstopgrowing #tetl CC: Sullivan Hardware & Garden

Remember: 'You need to take time out to work on your business, not in your business.' Heather Matthews' Vistage UK journey is a testament to this principle. Joining Vistage initially felt daunting for Heather, taking her 2 years to finally make the leap. However, over the past 7 years, she has never looked back! Listen to her inspiring story in the video below as she shares how this investment in Little's has proven to be the most important and best decision she has ever made. Laura Gordon #LittlesChauffeurDrive #VistageSuccess #BusinessGrowth #Investment
I'm often asked - what do I love most about what I do? If you know me, you'll know I'm absolutely passionate about my role as a Vistage UK Chair and about my members, who I get to choose and to bring into my Groups. Around 9 years ago I met this incredible lady, who was really focused on the growth of her business. But Heather is a reflector, and thinks things through, and took a wee while to decide to join my Glasgow Group - 2 years!! Since then, she hasn't looked back. Her business has doubled in size, she has a global footprint, she's scooped most of the women's, family business and entrepreneur awards in Scotland, and I've been so grateful to have been on this journey with her. Heather outlines her journey with Vistage UK in this video, and I'm sure you'll agree, she's the embodiment of a wonderful leader, who genuinely brings others along with her. I love working with her and I love having her as a member. Thank you Heather Matthews! https://lnkd.in/eZyBZEsM

Toronto City Council's recent decision to withhold new ride-share licenses until 2024's end will likely restrict supply, causing prices to surge for rideshare users in the city. However, beyond the inconvenience for consumers, this license cap poses a severe public safety concern. For instance, research from the University of Texas demonstrated a significant negative correlation between ride-share volume and motor vehicle-associated trauma. This impact was most pronounced among individuals younger than 30 years old. Further studies highlight that ride-hailing services contribute to a marked reduction in both physical and sexual assault arrests. This statistic aligns with the fact that 81% of female riders prioritize safety when choosing ride-hailing over other transportation alternatives. Phase II of the 2034sight Plan involves building an Ohio-Columbus Tunnel, an electrified two-track tunnel that would connect the Museum Campus, the future Bally’s Casino site at Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street, and the Fulton Market district. Doing so would create the first four of the previously mentioned CrossTowners routes. This would be the crux of the 2034sight Plan.
