My oldest son just ran for student council secretary and won. He wanted to run for president like all his friends... before we talked. Me: How many people ran for president last year? Him: 20 or so Me: How many people ran for vice president last year? Him: one Me: How many people do you expect to run for vice president this year? Him: I know of 5 or so. We went down the ballot until we thought about what would bring him more joy - Treasurer, Secretary, or Historian. He landed on Secretary. As a fifth grader in a highly competitive cohort, this win is an inflection point, opening doors in his future that he doesn't even realize.
