Last week we visited the Polish Air Force University to showcase our mutual capabilities and tour the university’s state-of-the-art facilities and recently upgraded infrastructure. A big thank you to Rector-Commandant Krzysztof Cur and his team for the warm welcome and insightful discussions. We look forward to working together to support modernisation of Poland’s training system and defence capabilities, and to help strengthen the Polish Air Force.

Winter is coming to Russia, and Putin knows that once the various squadrons of F-16s arrive, his vaunted air force will turn tail and run. However, the arrival of F-16s in Ukraine is only the first step. Ukrainian pilots, supported by drones and long-range missile systems, need to rapidly degrade the Russian air defence framework, which currently provides the protection to the front-line forces, and key command centres, and aircraft. At the front end it can provide counter air-to-air capability, while also grounding the Russian air force. However, the true capability it brings is that destructive element against the Russian air defence and command network. Punching holes into the integrated Air Defence framework is what will really hurt Russia, as then wild weasel missions, deep strike missile raids against logistic centres, and strategic strikes on oil terminals, key infrastructure and Russian political leadership locations is how Ukraine can maximise the F-16 capability. This is how Ukraine to rapidly degrade Putin's efforts, allowing the older Ukrainian aircraft to destroy the Russian armour, artillery, and infantry.
The F-16 fighters that #Denmark is transferring to #Ukraine will be under the control of the Ukrainian Air Force within a month, states #Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. "F-16 from Denmark will be in the air over Ukraine within a month," said Frederiksen. It's worth noting that Denmark is set to transfer 19 fighters to Ukraine. F-16 for Ukraine In 2023, under the leadership of the Netherlands and Denmark, an aviation coalition was formed with the aim of transferring modern F-16 fighters to Ukraine. Furthermore, the first group of Ukrainian pilots successfully completed their basic training program in the United Kingdom and has already begun training on F-16s in Denmark. Recently, the Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kajsa Ollongren, stated that Denmark may begin delivering the fighters this summer. https://lnkd.in/gdPyFF5P

🎤 More and more calls for western F-16 pilots to come aid #Ukraine "Right now, the F-16 pilots that were trained - and they'll tell you this too - they don't have enough time or experience in the airplane to teach that. But if the bottlenecks are removed that allow us to come volunteer and help Ukraine, then we can solve that problem. Ukrainians are fighting and defending their own country, and we can definitely help with that," says retired #USA Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Dan Hampton. ☝️ As you probably know, there are currently not enough F-16 pilots to fly the #aircraft provided to Ukraine by its allies. Training of pilots and crew takes a long time. During their visit to Kyiv this week, US Senators Richard Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham shared that Ukraine is looking for retired #NATO F-16 pilots: "Additionally, President Zelensky told us both that he would be looking to supplement his Air Force by establishing a program to enlist retired NATO F-16 fighter pilots. We support this effort. Ukraine is already fielding units of freedom fighters on the ground, and this volunteer force should be replicated in the air," Senator Blumenthal wrote "I’m going to bring this up. I’m asking [U.S.] President [Joe] Biden, before you leave office, to make sure this offer is extended," he said. 💡 This would significantly increase Ukrainian capabilities and enhance our air defense potential. Previously, exceptions were made for Americans who served in the RAF’s Eagle Squadron, as well as the Flying Tigers. There are a number of western nations with experienced pilots who are familiar with the F-16. We can protect Ukraine, #Europe and the western world as a whole better if we stand together. #Teamwork #Motivation #StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦

New Zealand’s Ministry of Defence has released a tender to market for proposals to replace the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s two Boeing 757s by the end of 2027. According to the 19 December announcement, the cost of maintenance and issues with reliability of the current fleet – alongside the competitiveness of the market – has meant “the business case process has been fast tracked”. "This work has been fast tracked ahead of the upcoming Defence Capability Plan,” stated the New Zealand Ministry of Defence. “However the final business case development will take into account any decisions made during this process.” “I’m keen for us to not repeat the mistake of a previous government that bought 10 years old 757’s (already well-used) in 2003,” stated Defence Minister Hon Judith Collins KC MP, on LinkedIn. This week we successfully concluded the Training Objective Workshop for the Joint Project Optic Windmill 2025 (JPOW25) exercise. JPOW25 aims to enhance collaboration among international air defence units. We are witnessing an increasing number of countries actively committing to Integrated Air and Missile Defence. Europe’s largest Air Defence exercise is evolving into a premier training institution. Following comprehensive training on Training Objective Development, the process and the use of the Training Objective Management Module (TOMM) we can announce that all the Training Objectives have been established. All participating NATO countries have defined their goals for JPOW25. We now look forward to advancing the scenario, simulation and MEL/MIL. This presents us with new and exciting challenges. JPOW25 continues to be an unique experience due to its divers international participants and the innovative approach to the exercise. One new innovation I could implement was the use of TOMM, created by the NATO Communications and Information Agency.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the Royal Air Force (RAF) is conducting a capability investigation into replacing its advanced jet trainer. This assessment will inform the Strategic Defence Review (SDR) and support the training needs of current and future combat aircraft, including the Typhoon, F-35 Lightning, and the forthcoming Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP). Conservative MP Ben Obese-Jecty raised the matter in a written question to the Ministry of Defence, asking for an update on the procurement process for the RAF’s next-generation fast-jet trainer.
