This week, the Defence Academy welcomed 31 industry delegates from 15 defence companies to join the Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC), during their ‘Managing the Defence Enterprise (MDE)’ module. The module includes an Industry Fair where industry delegates host stands to engage with the ACSC course members in order that they could learn more about the capabilities the companies provide, their industry perspective and relationship with defence. MDE aims to develop course members knowledge and understanding of the principles that govern the higher management of defence in balancing policy, concepts, capability and resource. The Swiss Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse has announced a tender for new medium-range ground-based air defence system (GBAD). As Switzerland’s current air defence arsenal nears the end of its operational life, armasuisse has called on three leading defence manufacturers to submit their proposals. These include Germany’s Diehl Defence, a consortium of Norway’s Kongsberg and the USA’s Raytheon, and France’s MBDA. The deadline for submission is set for mid-July 2024. This strategic move is part of the Swiss Army’s broader “Army 2025” initiative, aiming to address the growing technological advancements in aircraft that can engage from higher altitudes and longer distances. The current systems, primarily short-range, are deemed insufficient against such evolving threats. Following the successful completion of its work on the NASAMS air defence system as part of Project LAND 19 Phase 7B, REDARC Defence & Space has announced its partnership with Kongsberg Defence Australia on the export of Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Coastal Defence System (CDS) command and control consoles. "We are incredibly proud to be contributing to Kongsberg Defence Australia's success in securing this important export contract," said Scott Begbie, Executive General Manager, "This partnership builds upon our strong foundation of collaboration, beginning with our successful delivery of critical components for the NASAMS Fire Distribution Centre (FDC)." Cost Effectiveness: Despite global economic pressures, the F-35 program remains within budget, even experiencing price reductions per aircraft. Norwegian leading defense firm, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, is set to show the #NASAM Air Defense System at the upcoming International Defence Exhibition & Conference (#IDEX-2025) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The #NASAM stands for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System and is the world’s first operational Network Centric Short to Medium Range Ground Based Air Defence System. The KONGSBERG /Raytheon NASAMS Air Defence System features net-centric architecture, multiple #simultaneous engagements, Beyond Visual Range (#BVR) capabilities, closely integrated and adapted to a country’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence (#IAMD). The NASAMS network expands the defended area and enhances the total fighting capability of the armed forces.
