Last week, my team and I hosted an experimental Guru customer meetup in NYC. Here are 4 takeaways that reminded me of the value of genuine, face-to-face interactions in what's been a pretty challenging time in SaaS.
1️⃣ Breakfast is the new happy hour ☕
- Networking at after-work happy hours feels extra hard post pandemic. Our mid-morning breakfast meetup proved to be a hit, offering convenience for commuters, and accessibility for parents/caregivers.
2️⃣ Create a space when none exists 🪴
- With more companies fully remote, it’s become harder to conduct customer visits in-person. But organized user meetups still offer customers a unique opportunity to connect with others in their area, fostering shared learning but also a sense of community.
3️⃣ There is real power in presence 👀
- No matter the digital noise—emails, videos, pop-ups—nothing compares to the impact of in-person conversations. Our customers, busy with their full-time roles, may miss out on new releases. A single face-to-face meeting can achieve what multiple virtual calls cannot: their undivided attention and accelerated progress.
4️⃣ Live customer stories are key 🗣️
- Sharing customer stories is crucial, but if you can have a customer share their experience live? That’s unforgettable. Thank you Lauren van Heerden for sharing your experience with Guru at SeatGeek – your narrative is far more impactful than anything we could say ourselves.
While Rick Nucci and Mitchell Stewart did an incredible job talking about our exciting product roadmap 🤩, this meetup was really all about building relationships, better understanding our customers, and creating an environment to spark ideas. I’m extremely grateful to our customers for their honest participation and bringing a collective energy that made this event a success. 🙏 (Both OG champions like Cynthia Gordon, Mallory Pendleton, Kelly Parks, MBA, Rebecca Hia.. and new champions like Jessica Begley, Kate Novello, and Cierra Kriese) 🙌
And to the Guru team—your dedication and hard work in bringing this event to life was energizing. So energizing, in fact, that we are already planning the next one — where should we go next? 🗺️
