I grew up loving malls. No, I mean I have an eccentric fascination with malls. Visiting every 🍟 McDonald's in the world is #2, but I've made vacations to see the top 20 largest malls in America. (I'm missing 6.) Why? Because similar to schools, in-store shopping experiences have not evolved in decades. That alone should make your jaw drop. 😮 Google a store from the 1970s and tell me what has changed. RIGHT?! Maybe some technology with their POS, but the overall shopping experience, from mannequins to visual merchandising, has yet to evolve. The biggest reason - I think? 🤔 Lack of Cost-Effective Solutions - It's $$ to train your employees and customers on the latest technology. If I had unlimited funds and a brick-and-mortar business, these are two ways I would use technology to evolve my in-store experience: (There are more thoughts, but this rant is getting looooong.) 1. Samples are in the front of the store. Bots (similar to those at Haidilao) are trained to bring items to the cash register when a customer is ready to check out. Customers can see the items in their 'cart' either in-app or by scanning a QR code that pulls a virtual cart to their phone or tablet. 2. The same would apply to fitting rooms for a fashion retailer. Increase CVR with a tablet in each fitting room where customers can scan barcodes - bots then bring different sizes, fits, or styles with the click of a button. If it's out of stock? What do you do once you've achieved what you worked so hard for? One thing is certain: what got you "here" won’t get you "there." Every achievement is the result of focused drive, hard work, and yes — some luck. When I reached my goal of becoming a Merchandiser, a position I had been striving for over a long period, it was a dream realized. After celebrating and settling into the role for a couple of years, I found myself in a moment of reflection, asking: What’s next? What does this milestone mean for my future? It became clear that the strategies that brought me here wouldn’t take me to the next level. I knew that if I wanted to move into a Senior Merchandiser role, I needed to sharpen my skill set and broaden my perspective. So, I focused on enhancing my "toolbox" with key areas of growth: 1. Deepening industry knowledge 2. Enhancing analytical skills 3. Improving leadership and team management abilities 4. Focusing on strategic planning 5. Demonstrating initiative and driving innovation The path to growth is ongoing, and each step forward requires new behaviors, skills, and insights.
