UK Architectural World The Architects' Journal Architects report ‘longest period of pessimism’ since 2009 Architects are reporting ‘the longest period of pessimism’ since 2009 with the industry weighed down by a plethora of problems, according to the RIBA In the institute’s latest Future Trends Survey examining the health of the profession, the RIBA’s figures yet again present a bleak outlook for practices over the next three months, as architects continue to expect workloads and staffing levels to fall. A blight of planning delays is among the biggest challenges currently facing architects, according to the institute’s figures for January.

AIBC updates on Architects Regulation. Would be good to see some relaxations to allow more designers to be involved in missing middle housing. Right now only an architect can design more than a four unit residential. Flip side is that there are no mandatory certifications for designers.

Confidence returns for architects. RIBA's Future Trends Survey for April found that, overall, architects expect workloads to increase over the next three months - ending a year-long plague of pessimism. The April 2024 RIBA Future Trends Workload Index rose by two points to +2, indicating that architects expect workloads to increase overall. This is the first time that this index has been positive since June 2023. #construction #buildingmaterials #recruiting
