On June 26, MACP and its partners [Associated Industries of Massachusetts, Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM), Greentown Labs, Massachusetts Business Roundtable, Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, Mass Mobility Hub, NECEC, The Engine Accelerator] had the pleasure of hosting a Competitiveness Conversation on "Massachusetts Climatetech Leading the Charge" featuring a panel of 4 climatetech CEOs sharing their experiences and insights on the industry in the commonwealth. We were honored to be joined by Hudson Gilmer, CEO of LineVision. A few key points of his included: 🧠💸📣Massachusetts is the best place to start a climate tech company, thanks to what Hudson calls the "three B's" – brains, bucks, and boosters. 🌱The Massachusetts climatetech ecosystem is robust and growing. Organizations like Greentown Labs, Clean Energy Ventures, and Massachusetts Clean Energy Center have laid a strong foundation, and with increased funding the ecosystem can thrive even more. 🗺️We would do well to learn from New York, including the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, which provides a specific roadmap for achieving ambitious climate goals. Likewise, we would benefit from the level of funding that NYSERDA is investing into climatetech. 🏠 Additionally, addressing the high cost of living (particularly housing) is crucial to attracting and retaining the state's skilled workforce. See the short video clip below to hear why Hudson believes Massachusetts is the best place for climatetech innovation.

Head of Practice, Product Incubation, JFF Labs | ex-IMF | ex-World Bank | Climate Innovation | Lifelong Learning | Job / Credential Quality | Workforce Transformation
Attended a great session on State of Play: Clean Energy's Investment Boom hosted by Axios and presented by Climate Power, Ceres, Inc., and Elemental Excelerator. A panel conversation featuring Allen Blue (LinkedIn) and Dawn Lippert (Elemental Excelerator) resonated with my own thoughts bouncing around in my head!! 🌿 Yes, I agree Employers wield significant influence in attracting talent to embrace careers in climate-focused fields. 🌿 Dawn's emphasis on engaging with local communities resonated deeply with me. By partnering with local leaders, businesses can not only add value but also ensure that this transition is not just sustainable but also accessible to all. 🌿 And Allen rightly pointed out that as industries move towards decarbonization, there will be a growing demand for green skilled professionals. The question is, how can we signal this shift through the jobs we create to the climate-conscious generation of job seekers? Questions and thoughts worth pondering! Thanks Efrem Bycer for flagging this event for me. :) #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction #JustTransition #GreenJobs #ClimateInnovation #ProductIncubation

Thanks Margaretha Levander for putting a spotlight on some of the untapped opportunities and lessons learned from Swedish companies operating in the US and California. Although California often is highlighted as one of the key states for expansion for Swedish companies, we also experience companies that get comfortable with taking a key market share on the east coast (where many Swedish companies usually start their US journey) and dont have the capacity or "need" to go west. Our increased presence and focus in California aims to support even more Swedish companies to leverage the unique opportunities in one the worlds biggest economies, in particular in key fields such as Green Transition, Tech, Life science and Future Mobility - but also tapping into a market of 40 million people with Swedish products in the consumer and F&B sectors. And as we have an upcoming election in the US, where many Swedish companies are concerned over the potential impact on the federal green transition agenda, we can be certain that California (and several other states) will continue to have a strong focus on accelerating implementation and innovation within sustainable technologies to drive decarbonization. Looking forward to team up even more with the local ecosystem here over the coming years to enhance Sweden-California trade and investment relations!
New interview in Silicon Valley Nordic Beat: "Too Many Companies Stop After the East Coast" In 2023, Business Sweden strengthened its presence in Silicon Valley. In an interview, U.S. Head Vlad Månsson talks about missed opportunities for Swedish companies, the corporate climate in Silicon Valley, recent criticism, and the potential impact of the upcoming U.S. election. "There are thousands of venture-backed climate tech companies in North America. Of those, 50 of them are best-positioned to get their technologies to deployment and scale by 2050, according to a new report by Congruent Ventures and Silicon Valley Bank. The focus of the report, according to Joshua Posamentier, one of the report’s authors and Congruent’s managing partner and co-founder, is on technologies that are either being deployed already or do not require major behavioral changes to be deployed." At Camus, we're proud to be working on the complex but achievable goal of optimizing the existing grid.
