Endometriosis is known for its complex manifestations and elusive phenotypes. Pathophysiological explanation with current theories fails to encompass all scenarios, which urges for further exploration of genetic and autoimmune factors. The spectrum of endometriosis presentation, ranging from superficial appearance to significant fibrosis and scarring, makes diagnosis and treatment complex. Therefore, it is important to tailor treatment by considering each patient's distinct symptoms, employing advanced imaging techniques, and providing an ongoing care approach that includes the monitoring of co-existing conditions like IBS and interstitial cystitis. Parkinson’s disease is traditionally linked to motor symptoms and nigrostriatal degeneration but is now understood to involve multiple pathologies whose origins and roles in early stages remain unclear. A recent study focused on individuals with mild motor deficits, identified without the severe criteria for Parkinson’s disease (PD) diagnosis, and not based on post-mortem Lewy pathology but clinical symptomology. Dividing the patients by the presence or absence of synucleinopathy, the scientists found that both groups exhibited similar losses in nigral dopaminergic neurons and putamenal innervation, alongside comparable degrees of phosphorylated tau pathology, not observed in controls. This suggests that nigrostriatal neurodegeneration in early PD may occur independently of alpha-synuclein aggregation, potentially driven by tau pathology, challenging traditional views on the disease’s pathogenesis and highlighting the complexity of its early stages. Retinoblastoma (RB) taken with Microclear Medical #APOLLO RGB model. RB is a rare malignant eye tumor that typically occurs in infants and young children. It is the most common intraocular malignancy in infants and young children, seriously endangering the life and visual function of patients. 95% of RB occurs in children under the age of 5 and has a familial genetic tendency. Early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment are key to improving cure rates and reducing mortality. #Medicaldevice #Apollo #Funduscamera #retina #eyecare #Ophthalmology #Optomotery #Autofluoresence #ICGA #FFA #eyedisease #photooftheday #eyeclinic #eyespecialist

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has officially been renamed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease reflects a broader understanding of its causes beyond alcohol. Linked to obesity and metabolic issues, MASLD encompasses varying liver conditions like MASH. Mouse models like B6-Alms1-del aid research, showing promise in understanding and treating this complex disease. Exciting progress in liver pathology treatment is underway with drugs like Tirzepatide and Efruxifermin. #Alzheimer’s disease (#AD) Inhibition of #PSD95 corrects these Aβ-induced synaptic defects and reduces seizure activity in APP/PS1 ➡️ #mice ⬅️. Our results demonstrate a mechanism underlying elevated seizure activity during early-stage Aβ #pathology and suggest that PSD-95 could be an early #biomarker and novel #therapeutic target for AD.

Today we mark Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day #SCIAD 2024. Spinal cord injury can affect anyone, at any age, and have a life-changing impact. The spinal cord is responsible for communicating between the brain and all areas of the body. An injury interrupts these messages, which can have a serious impact beyond the most well-known impairment of walking ability. We at EG 427 are dedicated to addressing one of the major medical issues related to spinal cord injuries: bladder management. We are developing a new treatment, EG110A, that aims to provide long-lasting relief to urinary incontinence and greatly improve the health and quality of life of people living with spinal cord injuries. EG110A is a gene therapy which has shown strong preclinical results in terms of efficacy and safety, and has the potential to meet an important unmet need. Read the latest on EG110A here: https://lnkd.in/efeNqUHF https://lnkd.in/ev29qFMN #genetherapy #biotech #bladderhealth

Why are women four times as prone to autoimmune disorders? Probably because a molecule called Xist – made by one X chromosome in every female cell – can generate antibodies to a woman’s own tissues. #WomensHealth #AutoimmuneDisorders

Why women are more susceptible to autoimmune diseases? In this article, researchers explored a connection with Xist, a molecule produced by one X chromosome in female cells, and the development of antibodies against the body's tissues. The study explored the intricate process of X-chromosome inactivation, revealing potential factors triggering autoimmune responses. This molecular approach could improve our ability to predict and screen for autoimmune disorders, offering options for early detection and personalized interventions. #HealthcareInsights
