Leonardo proudly delivers more than 60% of the avionics for the Eurofighter Typhoon, which helps protect the multi-role fighter and ensures its operational readiness. We also ensure its readiness and availability via the Joint Avionics Service (JAS) function that supports all onboard avionics as part of the Typhoon Total Availability eNterprise (TyTAN) support programme for the aircraft that is led by BAE Systems alongside the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S). This 10-year initiative aims to improve Typhoon availability while simultaneously reducing the operating costs for the RAF Coningsby- and RAF Lossiemouth-based fleets by more than a third, savings that can then be reinvested into the capabilities of the fleet. Britain’s heavy lift capability will be bolstered with the purchase of 14 extended-range Chinooks (CH47-ER), which will pump an estimated £151 million into the UK economy.   The new Chinooks significantly enhance the UK's strategic mobility with its ability to operate in challenging environments. From the desert to the arctic, the helicopter has double the range of a standard Chinook and is capable of air-to-air refuelling, with the ability to carry up to 55 personnel or 10,000 kg of cargo. With a top speed of 300 kilometres per hour, the new helicopters will have a range of new capabilities, including an advanced digital cockpit and modernised mission systems to increase survivability. A long-standing RSAF - Royal Saudi Air Force fighter requirement is now being contested by the Dassault Aviation Rafale, the Boeing F-15EX, and the Eurofighter Typhoon. Previously it had been assumed this requirement would be for a new batch of Eurofighter Typhoons, but KSA has been looking at other options following a German ban on exporting the type to Saudi Arabia. Because the Typhoon was developed and built by a quadrinational consortium, consisting of Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, any partner nation can block an export sale; a 2018 contract for 48 aircraft was delayed by the German refusal to support the proposed sale. That block has now reportedly been lifted. Saudi Arabia had received an initial batch of 72 Typhoons between June 2009 and June 2017, under a UK/Saudi government-to-government agreement. The Qatar Emiri Air Force has sent one of its new NHIndustries NH90 NATO frigate helicopter (NFH) variants to the show, marking the type’s WDS debut. The NH90 helicopter is enjoying mixed fortunes at the moment. Australia has just grounded and retired its fleet, scrapping the aircraft for spares, while Norway terminated its NH90 programme in 2022, and demanded a full refund, and Sweden has also announced plans to retire the type prematurely. But other operators are enjoying more success with the aircraft, including the QEAF, which operates both major variants. Qatar announced its intention to acquire the NH90 In 2014, and signed a contract for 28 NH90s (16 NH90-TTHs for tactical transport and 12 NH90-NFHs for maritime duties) at the Dimdex defence exhibition on 14 March 2018. The purchase was finalised on 20 August 2018, for a total of $3.7 billion, covering the agreed number of NH90s, with an option with six more of each type. The first aircraft were handed over in March 2022. Focused materiel and other support from Lockheed Martin and the US Government is one success factor, but operational experience in replenishing and repairing during combat is also highly valuable. Giant on the city: C-17 Globemaster III The C-17 Globemaster III is the most flexible cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force. The C-17 is capable of rapid strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward bases in the deployment area. The aircraft can perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions and can transport litters and ambulatory patients during aeromedical evacuations. The inherent flexibility and performance of the C-17 force improve the ability of the total airlift system to fulfill the worldwide air mobility requirements of the United States.

The European Commission and the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency are closely monitoring the situation in the #MiddleEast and its impact on #civilaviation following the spike in military exchanges between #Iran and #Israel on April 13-14, 2024. All affected #airspaces (Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Iran) were closed by the relevant airspace owners through #NOTAMs (advisories) during the relevant time period. There was no overflight risk for civil aviation at any time. All of these NOTAMs have expired in the course of today, April 14).
