Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2024 Gateway Business Conference, where the focus was on "Sustainability: The Business of Tomorrow." This event was not only insightful but also a testament to the growing importance of sustainable practices in every industry, including construction. 👷🏽♀️ At Slade, we are deeply committed to integrating sustainability into our projects, and attending this conference reinforced the vital role that innovative, sustainable solutions play in the future of business. The discussions and panels provided fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that I am eager to explore and implement. Networking with fellow business leaders who are equally passionate about sustainability was a highlight of the event. The insights shared were truly invaluable! We were privileged to hear from a stellar lineup of experts: 🔹 Todd Frederick from FreMarq Innovations, who shared his expertise on upgrading windows and consulting with building owners to achieve energy-efficient solutions. 🔹 John Myers from Gilbane Building Company, who brought his vast experience as a GC in the New England region, working on highly complex and innovative projects. 🔹 Paul Ormond, who helped shape Boston’s building codes and offered a unique perspective from the City of Boston’s regulatory side. 🔹 Andrew Steingiser, a global leader in Passive House consulting, who provided regional and international expertise in sustainable building practices. Mike Woolsey, Business Development Manager for Swegon North America, was honoured to moderate a roundtable discussion at the House of Sweden In Washington DC on October 28, 2024. The topic of the discussion was "Balancing Operational and Embodied Building Emissions Without Compromising Indoor Environmental Quality". Industry stakeholders shared their observations on the disparity between the goals of reaching net zero buildings, and the uptake of net zero building design requirements.
