Great News on Truck Parking! Connecticut to Spend $31 Million to Improve and Expand Truck Parking Connecticut’s truck parking capacity will be increased by 44%, from 420 to 600 spaces by the end of the decade. “We are excited to begin these projects to improve safety for the trucking community, who keep our economy moving,” said CDOT Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto. With over 3.5 million truck drivers in the U.S. and only 313,000 available parking spaces nationwide. That is only 1 authorized parking space for every 11 professional truck drivers on the road today. The gap is clear, and the impact is significant. ▫ Safety Risks: Drivers are forced to park in unsafe or unauthorized areas. ▫ Lost Productivity: Hours are wasted searching for parking, cutting into delivery schedules and increasing freight and logistics costs. ▫ Driver Well-Being: Lack of rest and proper facilities affects health and morale. At Leonard's, we recognize that solving this crisis requires collaboration. We’re advocating for investment in more truck parking infrastructure (the Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act - a bipartisan bill in Congress would dedicate $755 million specifically for truck parking projects nationwide), technology-driven solutions for real-time parking availability, and industry partnerships to maximize existing resources. In Ohio, nearly $18 million will be allocated to add 138 parking spaces along I-70 and I-80, helping to address a long-standing safety issue. Lack of safe parking forces truck drivers into difficult situations—either continuing to drive while fatigued or parking in unsafe, illegal areas like road shoulders. To All My Bus friends old and new. I was talking to Steve about just this last week, the power of the snooper and the integration the system may be able to achieve across your fleet is impressive. We where discussing the potential of setting up a system where by your driver could just have a red light put into the dash that the snooper sits behind. Alerting the driver safely of the upcoming issue. A step further would be to integrate with the telemetry, who knows what could be achieved in that, stop the bus automatically?? I don’t know i am not a telemetry can data geniuse or bus engineer. The reality is that there is a system out there that can almost eliminate this issue, and its time the bus industry grabbed it.
