PRECISION PLANTING UPDATE: As most of you know by now, who have been following my saga. I did not receive a job offer from Precision planting after six interviews, a full day at their corporate headquarters and I don’t know if they’ve even hired anybody for that position yet but that’s irregardless. When I went to interview, their travel department failed to get me plane reservation with 10 days advance notice. ….so I had to drive myself all the way from Grand Island, Nebraska to Tremont Illinois for the interview process that day. I submitted the expense report per their expense form to their corporate office as requested. It’s now been over 2 1/2 months and I still have not been paid fully for my travel arrangements that they screwed up and didn’t get made and I ended up paying everything out-of-pocket through credit cards. Now they owe me for mileage on my vehicle that I was told today was gonna be paid. It is not gonna be paid. It did not show up in my bank account and the saga continues. Now I receive another email saying “can YOU submit another expense report filling out your mileage, etc. because we don’t know why it didn’t get processed properly or whatever reason it was ……please fill out another form. My God I think PP is the government instead of a high tech Ag company with a supposedly good reputation. I will keep you updated because this is what happens when corporations run a muck. They start out treating people like they’re supposed to, but then when a corporation gets so big, they lose track of exactly who their customer is and common sense policies go out the door. The left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing ……the mothership doesn’t know what the other corporations and companies are doing. And it ends up a fiasco. So I put this out there not to necessarily bash precision planning because there’s some very quality people that work there. But this is what happens in large corporations when the systems breakdown.

When I decided it was time to make a change (to stop working multiple jobs) and bring my sole focus to my own business, I had this hair-brained idea that it would free up a little bit of my time so that I could reframe my constant "go" approach to life, and start following through on some of these "passion projects" I'd envisioned doing. Building Blue Collar is my opportunity to showcase different careers within various trades, while also spotlighting small businesses and professionals. Working with Stubbs Landscaping on this episode was everything that I could ask for... - An open team that was willing to show their work, their tools, their spaces - A knowledgeable entrepreneur who understands the value of sharing his story - Values like personal attention to customers, and proactive approaches to worker safety We covered all the bases from where it all began (1:29); the training path taken (2:50); the process from start to finish (9:20); favorite things about the industry (7:00); advice & outreach (11:00); cool equipment that helps preserve the teams' bodies (13:08); and everything in between! There's no stone left unturned in this episode of Building Blue Collar: Landscaping Careers and I hope you'll check it out and share it around for those considering this path! https://lnkd.in/e5byddrJ As for me, I learn a little more with each episode, not only from my discussions, but also in my own craft as a one-woman-show! The hours of prep, the various equipment, and then even more time in post is proving to be an adventure that challenges me and forces me to grow. 💪 #mcglynnmedia #buildingbluecollar #passionprojects #landscaping #education #information #videoseries #newcontent #youtubeseries #thefuture #careers #trades #skills #allaboutlandscaping #hardscaping #smallbusinesssupport #spotlighton

I recently interviewed Réthy Katalin as part of an interview series I am doing with fellow PLUS Change Project Ambassadors. Katalin is an Agroecology professional and small-scale farmer and for the PLUS Change project she is representing small-scale farmers, seed savers, agroecology activists/researchers. In this talk we explore and hear about: •Her work representing small-scale farmers, seed savers, and agroecology activists/researchers •Their farm in Hungary, in the village of Páty •How issues related to climate change are affecting different crops and how she approaches the changes with experimentation and adaptation in mind •Their small market garden Szezon Kert •Her expertise with legumes and how drought conditions are affecting traditions of legume cultivation •Connecting agricultural activity with gastronomic activity and heritage, arts, community and culture •The benefits of peri-urban locations for 'urban agriculture' activities •The need to inspire and empower other community members to also grow food •Unlearning much of what textbooks have taught as, with changing conditions, some of it is not applicable •Viewing small-scale farms as little hubs of change •Reframing what innovation is and can be •Creating and adapting to new ways of being and living Listen and watch below and thank you to PLUS Change Project for the ambassadorship roles and the opportunity to connect up with so many visionary, and solution-minded change makers! https://lnkd.in/dWFxVvWj #smallscalefarms #periurbanagriculture #urbanagricultural #agroecology #agrarianurbanism #agriculturalurbanism #foodandcities #gastronomy #gastronomicheritage #PLUSchange #HorizonEurope #legumes

When hiring IT candidates in 2024, think of it as fishing in a pond, not a sea. 🎣 Casting lines in the same pond at the same time leads to crossed lines, wasted time, and no successful catches. 🐟 Let's keep it simple: fewer fishermen get the job done effectively, and too many fishermen are just going to cross lines. dan@acuityconsultants.jobs Acuity Consultants #Recruitment #HiringStrategies

Reflecting on a recent conversation between David Broom and Greg Bloom has reminded me of the unique and often unexpected paths that lead us into the roofing industry. David mentioned his father, who worked in the roofing industry for over four decades, and how, despite speaking fondly about it, he initially had no interest in joining the field. "It's not glamorous," as Greg aptly put it. Greg picked up the conversation, sharing his own journey. He took a summer job with Allied Building Products Corp., initially seeing it as just a temporary gig. This summer job, between his junior and senior years in college, involved hard labor—loading roofs, cleaning warehouses, and learning the ropes of the roofing supply business. Greg's journey, from these humble beginnings to becoming a key figure in the industry, is truly inspiring. It highlights how roofing, while not always glamorous from the outside, offers incredible opportunities for growth and development once you're inside. The industry is built on hard work, dedication, and the willingness to seize unexpected opportunities. For anyone considering a career in roofing, or for those already in the industry, Greg's story serves as a powerful reminder of the potential that lies within our field. It's about more than just the physical labor—it's about the people, the community, and the chance to build something lasting. I'm committed to continuing to share these stories through the #PeopleMakeRoofing campaign, to showcase the long-lasting careers and incredible opportunities available in our industry. These stories not only inspire but also highlight the diverse and rewarding paths that a career in roofing can offer.
