A Complicated Website Costs Sales: How We Simplified Online Ordering in the Fabric Industry We had a client come to us at then end of 2023 looking for an updated version of their website. They were struggling with being unable to take orders through the website which in a business to business environment is very important. The fabric industry is notorious for hard-to-navigate websites due to the amount of specifications and a huge amount of products. We expertly formulated a plan to have all of the necessary information on the website and still make it pleasing to the eye and easy to use. We have revamped the online presence, streamlined the ordering process and organised the HUGE product catalog into a user-friendly interface. *VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED ❗ ❗ ❗ "Tyler- Hope you think of us every time you use this one." This is about the time a customer sent me back one of my own products with a middle-finger laser etched onto it. Our team faced a dilemma a few years ago-- after expanding our wholesale partners throughout our first eight years in business we noticed (in 2020/2021) that our brand had been "diluted" online. Various shops were posting their own photos of our goods and taking extreme liberty with personalization of our products. It just wasn't up to snuff. We found ourselves in a quandary: Keep doing what we were doing, or hone in on who we were and clean things up. Everyone on our team knew some changes we in order-- but we were afraid of how this would affect relationships with some long-standing customers. Fortunately, our partners took it in stride. At least, most of them. We took a hand-in-hand approach: helping them clean up their websites with brand imagery, establish consistent pricing, and invested time training their teams on the presentation/ personalization of C&C goods. We even invested in a few customization machines for key retail accounts. But there was one hold out. A small, high-quality shop we'd done business with for nearly a decade. We'd softly remind them of the changes every 4-6 months as orders flowed through.......but nothing would change. Friendly emails, texts & calls would fall on deaf ears. Shop visits yielded no results. Customers who had bought in his shop had reached out to our internal Customer Experience team complaining of the variation in goods they bought online with us, versus goods bought in his store. We were even seeing Google ads ran against us with our own products-- a clear violation of our wholesale terms. Finally, I let the business owner know that things had gone on far too long. It was time to get on board or we'd have to have a serious conversation about continuing our (mutually beneficial) relationship. While I had appreciated his business for the last eight years, we had to look forward to the next eight and ensure we had the right partners in place to see mutual, long-term success on both sides. And two weeks after an expletive-filled rant telling us how to run our business, I received the product in the attached photo. One of our leather Kooze's with a laser-etched middle finger on it, a (not-so) sweet note, and a bow on one of our custom bags. Our mantra at C&C is "Lasting Goods & Meaningful Relationships." This no longer checked that box, and boy am I glad we moved on. Funniest part? His laser etching was placed on the BACK side of this Kooze, the underside of the stitches showing. For those that don't know, that's the less-aesthetic side of a stitched leather good. The proof is in the pudding. And I'll be hanging this one on the wall to remind me of the importance of finding partners who are bought in on your brand and working with people who make work pleasant 😄 Cheers! 🥃
