Delivering best in class talent acquisition solutions & supporting process transformation through technology
Big thanks to Nogie Irabor for setting up my visit and Jack Williams for welcoming me to the recent IHR - In-house Recruitment Early Careers Event. It was a fascinating day, hearing about where leaders in the Early Careers space are investing their time, efforts & budgets to attract & hire the very best talent. My key takeaway from the day: Gen Z candidates are demanding fundamental change in both attraction & hiring. Their suspicion of big business isn’t limited to their consumer behaviour, but also how they’re looking for jobs. Authenticity is key for these candidates who are much more likely to engage with self-generated social media content from grads and apprentices than they are with a sanitised corporate careers video. Early careers teams are blazing the trail when it comes to their hiring processes. Strength based assessments allow for those with little to no work experience to demonstrate their suitability for a role whilst bleeding edge tech platforms are allowing employers to run their assessments entirely online; ensuring ability to travel is no longer a barrier to entry and allowing candidates to use accessibility tools without needing to request assistance. It was also great to see the rise in popularity of Apprenticeships with many leading employers. With many people priced out of university or unwilling to take on large amounts of debt with no guarantee of a job afterwards, schemes that offer a good salary, on the job training and frequently a degree equivalent qualification is becoming a much stronger proposition. Some fantastic content and ideas were exchanged on the day, but I wanted to call out the following…. If your existing grad hiring processes or tools are feeling distinctly “school boy”, it might be time to level up. The team at Talent Tech Solutions can help. Drop me a line or follow us.
That's a wrap on 2024's Early Careers Conference! A big thank you to our attendees, speakers, and partners for their support. If you missed out on the action or would like to join us again next year, pre-registrations are now open for #IHREarlyCareers25: https://lnkd.in/giS-i7n #TalentAcquisition #Recruitment

Empowering Futures: Integrating Career Development & Mental Health for optimal career success, self-worth and resilience, and societal impact.
Although it was a four-day workweek, I was jammed with 12 presentations to our first-year classes, 10 resume presentations, and two new ones related to ethics and work values. I am grateful for the online resources and recordings built within the LMS, so I wasn’t pressured to cover everything and attempt to have more of a conversation with the students! Next up: Career Fair preparation (Wednesday, November 6th). 💼 🤯 I’ve noticed that the busier the semester gets, the more handwritten reminders, sticky notes, and scratch paper I have on my desk. 🧐 I’ve been curious about these digital notebooks that I’ve seen people use. 📜 I use the Post-it Notes app on my computer to save links and AI prompts. And a few of us at HCC have started to use the AI summary feature on Zoom. Confession: I have a hardcover notebook that I use for in person meetings. 📖 It’s RARE that I ever refer back to it. I do it to be engaged, and while I don’t have an explanation, I believe it plays into my brain retaining information as I write it down. ✍ ⁉️ Question for my feed (just for fun!) ❓ What’s your status on this topic? 1. Are you still using task lists and post-it notes? 2. Curious about digital notebooks too? 3. Have a digital notebook and won’t go back? Please share below! Happy weekend!

The Shah Center wants to see if any of our employers are interested in doing a takeover of our LinkedIn Page. We have 1,000+ followers of engineering students from all majors searching for co-ops and full-time positions, Alumni, and Industry Representatives. We are looking for industry partners to create content to provide students with insight and tips on professional development topics such as creating an elevator pitch, resumes, networking, interviewing, career fair preparation, etc. The content will be shared with all engineering students! Below is a list of benefits of doing a take over our LinkedIn page for a week: 1. shares fresh and creative content with our existing audience 2. brings an employer perspective, as students would prefer to hear from the employer side 3. creates brand awareness for students who are not familiar with your company and what you do 4. increases our follower count and interaction If you are interested in participating or want to know more, please email us at ecdc@utoledo.edu.

University Recruiting SME | Independent consultant to employers hiring early talent | Provider of unbiased student recruiting research
Here’s why this student’s quote about her recent recruiting event experience caught my attention: There’s no question that access to former interns/recent hires is a valued attraction and engagement strategy, but needs to be balanced with “upper level representatives” – although her inference was not what I would have anticipated. Interesting to consider this comment within the broader context of how so many employers these days are taking a pass on visiting campus beyond the career fair – or sending a skinnied-down team. Far from being the “dirty work”, this is where SRG’s recent research [‘Recruiting Engagement: Expectations and Experiences’] shows clear differentiation between the ‘most and least impressive and effective’ employers. And why my next project, ‘Impact of Virtual Recruiting on the Job Search’, will include a deep dive into students’ attitudes about the value of in-person and online engagement throughout process. It concerns me, as someone who has UR in her blood, that the lack of on-campus recruiting could be perceived as something “no one higher up in the company wanted to do”.
