"Infrastructure is a marvel, meeting our basic needs and enabling lives of astounding ease and productivity that would have been unimaginable just a century ago. It is the physical manifestation of our social contract—of our ability to work collectively for the public good—and it consists of the most complex and vast technological systems ever created by humans." Join us Wednesday, April 10th for Olin College of Engineering Professor Deb Chachra discussion on the infrastructure systems that shape our world.

The momentous and impactful work done by those before us must be celebrated in order to fully understand and appreciate what we have today. For Smoot Construction, this means not only remembering the work of enormous figures like Martin Luther King, Jr., but also the generations of perseverance and determination that came together to create a business like ours. As we enter our fourth generation of family ownership and round out our seventh decade of being black-owned, we embrace the immense pride in being able to be here today, to share our opportunities with others, and to continue the work of those before us. From the foothills of West Virginia and our humble beginnings as masonry contractors struggling to win work, to becoming the largest black-owned construction business in the Midwest, the Smoot family has lived its values and honored the work of generations and leaders before us. As shown in MLK Jr.'s powerful words, we must continue to work past our comfort, we must persist when it is convenient not to do so, and we must embrace challenge and controversy. We will continue to soar to new heights, to share our successes with others, and to lift up those other members of our community, so that one day, we will be part of legacy that our successors can look back on and celebrate. #mlkjr #martinlutherkingjr #blackownedbusiness #constructionindustry #mlkjrday

What better way to celebrate both the legacy and future of Grand Junction High School than by performing the Fight Song one last time in the current building! (*Turn on audio 🎵 *). We look forward to seeing the GJHS band perform this song in the new school this fall and continuing the many other traditions that make this community special. This video was prepared by DPM for the Board of Education project update last week - the last update before the ribbon cutting in August. It shares a recap of the construction of the new school building with drone footage captured by Clint Smith and Onsite Drone Services! Special thanks to the entire D51 community, the 'Yes on GJHS' campaign committee, Mesa County Valley School District 51, Grand Junction High School, BG+co, DLR Group, FCI Constructors, Inc., and the Colorado Department of Education BEST Grant Program for making this important project possible. Did you know.....that EVs are actually LESS likely to catch on fire compared to traditional (or ICE) vehicles? Despite the noise in the media, various surveys concluded that EVs represent FAR LESS of the overall vehicle fires reported. Per BILLION MILES driven, there were 55 ICE vehicle fires compared to just 5 EV fires. And EVs exhibited 61 TIMES FEWER fires per 100,000 sales than ICE vehicles. All of that is backed up but the City of Phoenix Assistant Fire Chief Tim Kreis. It was awesome to learn about how proactive and forward thinking Tim’s team and the City of Phoenix has been with these new trends. In fact, that hoverboard or scooter sitting in your garage is more likely to catch on fire than your neighbors EV 🔥🛴 Thank you Arizona Technology Council and the AEEE committee for another great event Deborah Zack | Victor Atlasman | Brett Dooley Thank you Legacy EV for hosting at your new facility Mavrick Knoles | Rob Ward Learn more about the future of #electrification #batterytech #cleanenergy #cleantech #climatetech at the next AZ CleanTech event June 3rd.
