Chief of Staff, People Strategy, Change & Transformation, Business Management, HSBC, KPMG, Qualified Chartered Accountant
We create the map of our lives, and careers It often requires: 1. Support 2. Decisions 3. Perseverance When managing your career: ▶ The path can be set out for you, or ▶ You can do things your own way & create your own path I created my own path, full of variety and newly created roles … Having started my career as a chartered accountant, after 8 years I knew it wasn’t where I wanted to stay The aspects I loved the most were to do with people, relationships, communications and leadership … and because business is all about relationships, this really helped my career ▶ I also knew I could do more & different ▶ I didn’t want to be hemmed in to following process So, I created opportunities… The 6 roles I had after accountancy/audit were all newly created in: 1. Career Development 2. Business Management 3. Global People Strategy 4. Change & Transformation 5. COO Strategy & Planning 6. Chief of Staff to the CEO It made me realise that I can succeed in whichever role I choose to take on The key was making the right choices & taking roles I was genuinely interested in, as I performed the best at those Sometimes it’s only when you look back that: 1. You realise what you achieved 2. You realise that your decisions were your own 3. You realise that you created your own career map I created mine. How are you creating yours? What advice would you provide, or do you need? #careers #ownership #decisions
I'm creating mine by tumbling and falling. Not elegantly but consistently And 1 step at a time
True that Baljit Kaur I also create my own by putting down my Ego which allows me to become curious & understand the exact happening on the map of careers instead of delusional beliefs. I am bit curious to understand more about “Chief of Staff role to CEO” ? which i came across first time by exploring your profile & experiences. Also , Curious to know about your experiences like how you came to know/made decisions about different roles you mentioned will suit you? It was your instinct or intuition or an exploration/experiment?
I'm 3 steps ahead of you. I don't create my own maps, I create my own GLOBES!!
You're an inspiration, Baljit. Your point about “realizing what you’ve achieved” is key. Often, we're too busy moving forward to appreciate our past accomplishments. Taking that step back to reflect and appreciate our journey is essential for continued growth and motivation.
I think I stumbled upon my path, and there are still many crossroads ahead🤷♂️
It's truly inspiring to read about your journey, Baljit Kaur. Determination and creativity stand out here.
Baljit Kaur my greatest advice is that you have to iterate. You've done a great job of uncovering opportunities and leaning in when you see one. There is no perfect plan that plays out as you anticipate but there plenty of paths you can take.
What an inspiring journey, Baljit Kaur. Stay true to our passions and keep believing in yourself - you have got this!!
Creating my own career path was the best decision ever! 🌟📈🚀

2moIt's common and often that people let themselves be controlled by where it takes them rather than actively pursuing or working toward a proper career map and progression plan. I love how you worked in newly created roles, as that is a testament to your abilities and skills and, most of all, your values and purpose. One piece of advice I would offer is not to underestimate the power of networking. This is significant when it comes to guidance and being in the know of what's upcoming. Cheers Baljit Kaur
