Thank you to the European Automotive Cluster Network EACN for bringing together 32 clusters to collaborate and share ideas. At this General assembly we: 🔹 Had the opportunity to once again present our cluster to the 32 other cluster – members; 🔹 Voted on the President's Report and the new board; 🔹 Discussed the EU’s CO2 emission goals and why progress on EV adoption is still slow. During the discussions, it became evident that several challenges are hindering the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) across EU member states: 🔹 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐬, making EVs less affordable for consumers; 🔹 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 for electric mobility, limiting convenience and accessibility; 🔹 High 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬, which deter consumers from transitioning to EVs. #BACC remains committed to working with EACN and others to tackle these challenges and make Europe’s #automotive #industry more #competitive and #sustainable. #BACC #BalticAutomotive #Mobility #innovation #collaboration #EUAutomotive #sustainableMobility #renewableEnergy #electricPowertrains #electricmobility #MobilityInnovation

Last week, our colleague Sanne van Breukelen was at the Clean Buses Europe conference in Amsterdam. Some very interesting views from the world of low emission buses. 1) A comprehensive study undertaken in Poland (soon to be published by the Centre for EU Transport Projects/Centrum Unijnych Projektów Transportowych) shows that the total cost of ownership (TCO) of diesel, CNG and battery electric (both hybrid and pantograph considered) vehicles over 15 years are very similar. The choice of technology for new fleets is not really a financial one. These results are mainly sensitive to the diesel vs. electricity cost ratio when transferred to other EU countries. 2) From Bus Éireann in Ireland, we heard the strong and clear message – “𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐃𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐥”, as part of their DEFT strategy. 3) For financing options to help cover the increased capital costs of battery electric buses, the recent collaboration on battery leasing between First Bus, Hitachi ZeroCarbon and MUFG Bank is an interesting way to finance and organise the electrification of the bus fleet and depot. Paweł Engel MBA, Ray Connolly, Daniel Jaax For our partners at the eBRT2030 project, planning and implementing elestric bus rapid transit systems across Europe, these are all interesting developments to follow…

🚍 A new publication from The International Council on Clean Transportation presents the updated methodology of the E-Bus Radar platform (www.ebusradar.org), which now includes a life-cycle assessment to estimate the greenhouse gas emissions avoided with the adoption of battery electric buses and trolleybuses, compared to internal combustion engine buses. 🔋 This update accounts for emissions from exhaust, vehicle and battery manufacturing, vehicle maintenance, and fuel and electricity production, and uses country-specific data from Latin America. 🌎 The E-Bus Radar is a platform created and maintained by the ZEBRA partnership, co-led by the ICCT and C40 Cities, and it tracks the implementation of battery electric buses and trolleybuses in the public transport systems of Latin American cities and their associated reductions compared to conventional models.
