How important is the Pharmacist to Pharmacy Technician ratio? The laws on this topic vary from state to state and have been criticized in recent years. The ratios are an attempt to find a balance between providing assistance to the pharmacist operating the pharmacy while maintaining adequate supervision of their pharmacy technicians. The ratio ranges from 1:2 in states such as Iowa to 1:6 in Texas. Some states have no limit at all! The argument for more technicians is it allows the pharmacist to devote their time to more clinical tasks, however, misconduct by an unsupervised technicians can result in significant patient harm. Most Pharmacists I speak to seem to agree on 1:3 being the most efficient, safest ratio. What do you think the ideal ratio is? #pharmaciststaffing #pharmacystaffing #pharmacyjobs #pharmacy #pharmacist #pharmacytechnician #statelaws

1006I’m just saying it’s a better way to go than Walgreens. Nobody even knows you’re there I never did because I was a street pharmacist, but I spent a lot of time researching with books 📕 they old fashion way in the olden days read a book. What are you doing? Read the book. The book mobile is coming. I wish they still had those for all the children magical Certainly! Here’s a more concise version of the information about working in compounding pharmacies: Qualifications to Work at a Compounding Pharmacy 1. Education: • Pharmacist: You typically need a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. This includes coursework in chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacy practice. • Pharmacy Technician: Requires a high school diploma and often additional training or certification, such as from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). 2. Licensure: • Pharmacists must pass the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination (NAPLEX) and a state law exam. • Pharmacy technicians may not need licensure in all states but are often certified. 3. Specialized Training: • Experience in compounding practices is usually required, covering sterile and non-sterile compounding and regulations set by the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) and the FDA. State of Compounding Pharmacies in the U.S. 1. Number of Compounding Pharmacies: • There are approximately 5,000 to 7,000 compounding pharmacies in the U.S., with numbers fluctuating due to regulatory changes and market demand. 2. Types: • These pharmacies include those focused on sterile compounding (e.g., injections) and non-sterile compounding (e.g., creams). Recruitment and Job Opportunities 1. Job Market: • Compounding pharmacies actively recruit pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and quality assurance personnel due to the growing demand for personalized medications. 2. Where to Look: • Job openings can be found on pharmacy job boards, compounding pharmacy websites, and through professional organizations like the American Pharmacists Association (APhA). 3. Networking: • Networking through pharmacy associations and local pharmacy schools can aid in finding job opportunities. Conclusion To work in a compounding pharmacy, you’ll need relevant education, licensure, and specialized training. The field remains significant and offers various career opportunities.

Technicians will replace #pharmacist roles I believe that in the next 20 years, we'll see technicians gradually taking over traditional pharmacist roles, like dispensing and education, freeing up pharmacists to dive into more advanced clinical work. Now, I have a little bit of a crazy theory about this, so I made a YouTube video. I'm not 100% informed of everything going on behind the scenes with technicians, but history tells me we’re already experiencing technicians transforming. I share my theory in the video, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on how techs are changing in the next decade. https://lnkd.in/g65Axrmp
